appointment of Mr. L. A. Wells as Scottish deputy Licensing Authority and deputy chairman of the Scottish Traffic Commissioners in succession to Mr. A. B. Birnie (now Scottish L.A.) with effect from February 8.
Mr. L. A. Wells, who is 53, has been a civil servant for 36 years. For the past 16 years he has lived in Scotland and is at present a chief executive ,officer With the Scottish Development Department in Edinburgh. His new appointment will mean a return to the Ministry of Transport and to the traffic area organization which he left in 1949 after an association lasting almost 15 years.
