that the motor lorries that have been imported into the country since the abolition of the tariff duty are not being absorbed. The Japanese, it is stated, are inveterate speculators, and stocks are being accumulated against the reinstitu tion of the tariff next April. It is probable, however, that the recent recurrence of seismic disturbances at Tokio will result in a further extension being granted to the remissions allowed last September.
