The London 1914 Parade.

Very satisfactory progress is being made in respect of next Whit-Monday's Motorvan Parade in London. We shall publish, in an early issue, the official list of contributors to the Expenses and Prize Funds. The DEMI e3 are thoroughly representative of comtnercial-vehiele interests, and the donations vary from 20 guineas down to a single guinea. At the moment of going to press, they aggregate a sum of nearly £500, but more is wanted. The Parade foul's a valuable set-off against the annual Cart-horse Parade.

Join the C.M.U.A.

Stand 22a at the City Hall, Manchester, will be occupied by the Commercial Motor Users Association. The stand, very fittingly, is primarily for the benefit of the Manchester, Liverpool and Counties C.M.U.A., but any owners who live . in neighbouring territories can join their proper section, or thei incorporated body in London. Foe the guidance of new readers, we may very properly direct attention to the names and addresses of the several secretaries, and these will be found in the course of the full announcement in this issue.

L. and N.W. Thornycrofts.

John I. Thor nycroft and Co., Ltd., of Caxton House, Westminster. S.W., received an order for 13 of its new worm-driven chassis, for express parcel service, towards the end of 1913, from the L. and N.W. Railway. This brought up the total of Thornmereft vehicles owned by England's premier railway company to 29 in all. The new Thernyi croft vehicle is made in four sizes, suitable for.imposed loads lin to 1 ton, a ton, 2 tons awl 2,i, tons, respectively. The L. and Y.W.B. favours the 11-ton model. The order has now been completed, and the vehicles are actively engaged

030 in their work of collecting and delivering parcels in various centres. The wheelbase of this vehicle is 10 ft., and the turning circle about 374 ft., whilst the design is remarkably clean throughout, special attention having been successfully paid to the important bearing of low replacement cost after hard use.

We learn that Avery and Roberts, Ltd., of .148-151, Mount Pleasant, Liverpool,. has taken up the. Dennis agency for Liverpool and a 25mile radius from that city.

Heavy Spirit.

Entire satisfaction has been given in London, during a considerable period, to users who are purchasing motor spirit of a heavier grade than Usual. This averages about .777 specific gravity, and is guaranteed not to exceed .782 specific gravity. Practically the whole of the spirit distils under 175 .degrees Centigrade, and it is, of course, a, little cheaper than any lights,r grade.

Congestion at Liverpool.

Mr. T. Molyneux, M.I.Meeh.E., who was one of the 'observers in the Liverpool heavy-motor trials of ).-; and more years ago, read an interesting paper before the Liverpool Engineering Society on Wed

Brodie, M.Inst.C.E., the city engineer of Liverpool, does not apprehend any insuperable difficulties in connec.. tion with road improvement, for the purposes of heavy motor transport, whilst he is eulogistic: in respect of the position which British makers hold In this -industry, and concerning the performances that can be obtained from approved types and models at the present time. The St. Helens Cable and Rubber Co., Ltd., informs us that it will be pleased to send one of its plated penknives to any owner, user or driver of a commercial vehicle who cares to send to the Warrington offices particulars of the sizes, etc., of the rubber tires which he is at present using.

-Original Bernas.

One of the latest testimonials in reference to Original Bern,a motor lorries comes from Messrs. Bryson Bros, dairymen, of 93, Claythorn Street, Calton, Glasgow. The lorry carries 50 gallons of milk at a time, and its owner finds that it is extremely economical ; 10 miles of running to the gallon of motor spirit is obtained, over very rough roads.

Brookes Industrial Motors.

We have just received from J. W. Brooke and Co., Ltd., of Adrian Works, Lowestoft, a copy of its latest industrial-motor catalogue. This well produced brochure contams a, very complete selection of engines for all classes of industrial application such. as ploughing, knowing and the propulsion of rail locomotives, inspection cars, motor boats, etc. Complete motor-dynamo and motor-pump sets are also listed.

Brooke specialities include rail locomotives, inspection cars, and motor trams manufactured throughout by the company. Several types of these vehicles are illustrated in the catalogue, and further designs for any special purpose will be willingly submitted. The Brooke factory is one of the largest in the country which is devoted entirely to the manufacture of industrialmotor-engines, and in consequence the work there is highly specialized. The _Albion Co. is opening a Liverpool office, at 19, South John Street. Mr. R. Thomson, of the company's head office and works staff, is to be in charge. This should be a convenience to Albion owners, and should facilitate new business. There is evidence of growing attention for Liverpool demands.

We are asked to state that, during the Manchester Show, several of the latest type of Girling parcelears will be exhibited in the showrooms of the company's Manchester agent, Mr. J. W. Haworth, 232, Deansgate. A demonstration machine of this type also will be available for those who are interested to try it. The chief office of the New Girling Commercial Cars, Ltd., we may remind our readers, is at 36, Long Acre, London, W.C.

Peter Unions.

When in Manchester one day recently, we had an interesting conversation with Mr. A. P. Coppinger, who represents the Peter union tire in the important northern area which centres on Manchester. Mr. Coppinger tells us that he has recently been successful in obtaining the renewal of many important contracts, and the two which be particularly cited concern the Bleachers' Association' Ltd., and John Smith's Brewery of-Tacicaster.

which body, under the energetic direction, of a committee of practical

men, has been remarkably active since its formation last summer. Mr. Ellis Green, of 3, Cromwell Buildings, Blackfriars Street, is the secretary, and he will be frequently in attendance at the C.M.U.A. stand in the exhibition— No. 22a. The " C.M." can also bs seen on this stand, and the Association's -badges inspected.
