A N intensive check conducted in the town by examiners of the West Midland Licensing Authority resulted in the conviction of 18 drivers and employers at Leamington Spa magistrates' court on Monday. They pleaded guilty to 12 summonses of failing to keep records and seven of using goods vehicles without C licences. Mr. T. A. Matthews, for the Licensing Authority, said the check—carried out on January 20-21—was to remove any doubt in Leamington about the conditions for C-licensed vehicles. He told the court that many additional. cases had been dealt with by warnings. "Any application which came in within seven days of the check was forgotten," he said. The magistrates imposed fines totalling £6 with costs of £1 2s. 64. on John Knott of Southam Road, Hanbury, who pleaded guilty to two offences of failing to display a C licence and failing to keep records. His driver Roy Arthur Golder, of Box Hedge Terrace, Banbury, was fined £2 for failing to keep records.

The bench imposed £3 fines on the following for failing to use C licences:— Eric Dove, Palm Tree Avenue, Coventry, Peter John Rush and John Herbert Thomas Smith of Warwick Motor Spares Co., West Street, Warwick, Antoni Wallenti Chmiel, Oxford Street, Leamington, Donald Wilks, Church Street, Leamington and John McLaughlan. Kenilworth Road, Coventry. The court also fined the following for failing to keep records: Leonard Henry Hunt, East Grove, Leamington, (12); George Bradford, Mill Street, Learning' ton, (£3); Laurence William Hodgkin, Binswood Street, Leamington, (13); Leslie Alfred Read, Dudley Green, Leamington, (12): H. Brunnen, Ltd., Bedford Street,

Moore and Co., Ltd., Church Walk, Leamington, (£3); Wilfred Leonard Dean, Rugby Road, New Chubbington, Leamington, (£2); Muriel Eileen Bradshaw, Brunswick Street, Leamington, (£3); Albert Edward Horseman. The Old Bull Inn, Inkberrow, Wares, (€3); Ernest Austin, Nlilverton Terrace, Leamington, (€2).

All were also ordered to pay 2s. 64. costs.

The magistrates adjourned sine die cases against George Baden Thornton of Warwick Place, Leamington, who is alleged to have failed to keep records, and K.J. Radio, T.V. and Electrical Co., Ltd., of High Street, Leamington, who are alleged to have failed to keep records in respect of the driver.
