Mr., J. Smillie, Glasgow, Successfully Tenders for 24-Vehicle Unit : List 9 Purchasers in Three Areas ANOTHER Scottish haulier, Mr. J. Smillie, of Glasgow, has successfully tendered for a substantial transport unit. It comprises 24 vehicles, including five articulated outfits (92/ tons), and five trailers, and has been transferred to John Smillie, Ltd., also of Glasgow.

Purchasers of list 9 units are reported this week in the East Midlands, Eastern Counties and London and Home Counties.

Harris Road Services, Ltd., Plantation House, Fenchurch Street, London, E.C.3, who were reported last week to

have bought 39 lorries and 11 trailers based in Cheshire, have had the address on their special A licence amended to Lostock Gralam, Northwich, where their head office is situated. A.

The company was recently formed to continue the prenationalizationbusiness

of P. L. and G. S. Harris, Ltd., who also operated from Cheshire. There are also depots in West Ferry Road, Millwall, London, as well as in Liverpool and Hull.

Managing director of the new company is Mr. C. H. Palim, formerly managing director of P. L. and G. S.

Harris, Ltd., and Liverpool district manager of British Road Services.

Other directors arc Mr. P. S. Henman (chairman), Mr. W. Fraser, Mr. C. J. Palmer and Mr. G. McRae.

SCOTLAND

A substantial first purchase has been made by Mr. J. Smillie, Glasgow. Twentyfour vehicles, including five articulated outfits (924 tons), and five trailers, have been taken over and assigned to John Smillie, Ltd., also of Glasgow.

Four articulated outfits (114 tons) have been taken over from Clark and James, Ltd., Blount Street, London, E.14, by Mr. George Stringfellow, Glasgow. Mr. William Nicol, Kintore, has been successful with his tender for another two lorries (6 tons). ,

Assignments authorized' by the Scottish Licensing Authority are: a lorry (44 tons) to Hayton Coulthard, Ltd., Twynholm, by Mr. R. N. Richardson, Oldbury; one (3 tons) to James Rice and Co., Ltd„ Glasgow, by Dalkeith Transport and Storage Co., Ltd, Dalkeith; one (3 tons) to Messrs. D. and D. Transport, Dundee, by Little Strickland Trading Co., Ltd., Newby, Penrith; one (3 tons) to Messrs. West's Transport, Dunfermline, by Mr. Alex. M. Wright, Dalkeith; and one (3/ tons) to Mr. James Nimmo, Shotts, by Mr. Sans Anderson, Newhouse.

NORTHERN AREA Another three lorries (10 tons 1 cwt.) have been bought by Messrs. E. Nelson and Sons, Trafalgar Garage, Arnside. One of three lorries (11 tons 12 cwt.) purchased by Layfield Transpor t Services, Ltd., Britannia Street, Thomabyon-Tees, has been made over to Messrs. Percival and Webb, Front Street, Stanhope. It weighs 3/ tons unladen.

Siddall (Transport), Ltd., "South Darley, near Matlock. Murphy Bros., Ltd.. Melton Road, Ssston, have been granted special A icences for another seven lorries and a railer (43 tons 16 cwt.). Two of these 15 tons 13 cwt.) were bought of Mr. W. Storey, Pontarc, Ackworth. near Pontefract, and one (8 tons 6 cwt.) has been re-assigned to Mr. F. B. Atkins, Burton Road., Findern, Derby, who has replaced t with a vehicle weighing 81 tons. The athers have been transferred as follows:
