A TRUCK DRIVER who was involved in a multi-vehicle accident after his vehicles' brakes failed has been cleared of dangerous driving.
Steve Burr, from Blakeney, Gloucestershire, was accused of taking a huge risk by driving his Oaf truck to the garage despite being aware of a brake problem.
The truck failed to stop at a set of temporary traffic lights in Cinderford before colliding with a milk lorry. After bouncing off the milk lorry, it ploughed into a line of stationary cars that were waiting at the lights.
A number of drivers were seriously injured and several cars were damaged. The day before the accident Burr had noticed there was something wrong with his brakes and asked mechanics to take a look at them and make appropriate adjustments.
The brakes still weren't right the next morning, so Burr contacted his transport manager who told him to 'either go on with it or take it back to the garage".
The prosecution had claimed that carrying on with his deliveries with this knowledge amounted to dangerous driving.
But hearing that his bosses had left Burr to make the decision on whether to continue or drive back, the jury acquitted him of the charge.
