A Clever Design Which Reduces Effort on a Normally Heavy Job

DURING the past six years the oldestablished body-building concern of J. H. Jennings and Son, Ltd., Sandbach, Cheshire, in common with most ether companies of repute, has been engaged on Government work. The exceptions have been where a civilian user has been able to secure a " licence to acquire" from the M.O.W.T.

The company, however, has devoted much thought and energy to post-war ideas, the benefit of which civilian users will now be able to take advantage. Considerable extensions to the premises were carried out during the war, and these are still being added to.

We understand that this has been found necessary as the result of the orders on band and potential business, in connection with the concern's cabs and flats, van bodies of all types, refusecollection bodies for municipalities, cattle-truck bodies in which J H. Jennings and Son, Ltd„ has always specialized, and many other types of bodywork.

Cattle-truck ;bodies are, mainly, of three types, usually known as generalpurpose, which strip down to a flat platform, those of rigid construction, and the container type in which the upper portion lifts off to leave a sidedplatform body.

In connection with the rigid and contamer type of body, the company has designed a new form of ramp torsion spring, which enables a ramp to be lifted by an average person using only one band.

The accompanying illustration shows a boy apprentice holding a ramp at its most critical angle, and it is apparent that he is doing so with a minimum of physical effort.

In -clew of the easy manner in which such a ramp can he manipulated, the concern anticipates a great future for this, trouble-free easy-lift arrangement, It is quite certain that the loaders and unloaders will appreciate its value.
