T AST Saturday (Sept. 25th) was an .1.4 important day for all interested in the commercial motor at Liverpool. For many years the‘eity has had an annual horse parade, reputed to be the finest in the country, but never before a turnout of motor vehicles. The initiative was taken by the Liverpool branch of -the Commercial Motor Users Association. who for months have been making preliminary arrangements and 'stimulating interest in the event, which was really an historical one, to make It a great pioneering success, Over thirty firms competed, with about 200 vehicles, comprising 16 fleets of steam wagons, 11 fleets of petrol vehicles, and approximately 40 single machines. The competitions embraced seven events ; Fleets of three vehicles, (a) steam, (b) petrol, (c). electric; single vehicles: (a) steam, (b) petrol; (c) electric; and single

vehicles (owner-drivers). Any team of c2 three vehicles, either similar or mixed types and load capacities, but each team steam, petrol, or electric, was eligible, and prizes were awarded to the entrant whose machines were, in the opinion of the judges, in the best condition, having regard to the. class of work upon which they were employed, their ages, and the total mileage run. A feature was a fleet of electries.

The vehicles assembled for the judging at Queen's Drive at 9 a.m., and a terwards There was a route parade, in which additional vehicles took • part. The National Council of the .Commercial Motor Users Assocriation nominated six judges, two from London; tvim Iron Manchester, and two from Preston, to examine the vehicles and award the prizes. Traders were not allowed to participate. The prizes included a silver challenge cup presented by the Sentinel

Waggon Works (1920), Ltd., of the value of 4850, which is to be held for twelve months, and was awarded to the owners of the best fleet of three steam wagons. J. I. Thornycioft and Co., Ltd.. also presented a silver challenge cup for the best fleet of three petrol vehicles. Silver medals were -allocated to the drivers and second men on the winning machines, together with the following cash prizes: diivers: 1st prize, £3; 2nd, £2; 3rd, £1. Second man : 1st, £2; 2nd, £1; 3rd, 10s. The prizes are to be distributed at a later date.

The Liverpool Motor Fire Brigade headed the procession through the main streets of Liverpool, and regulated the speed, and was followed by motor vehicles,helonging to the Corporation. In next week",s, issue we hope to give a more detailed and illustrated account of the parade.
