R. E. H. Braithwaite, 45, since 1965 chief engineer of the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd., has been appointed chief engineer of Midland Red. Mr. Braithwaite entered the transport industry in 1948, as a trainee, with Midland Red. In 1949 he was promoted junior assistant engineer and the following year assistant engineer (service testing). He moved to East Kent as assistant engineer in 1951. and in 1960 was appointed Chief engineer of Yorkshire Traction.
A.J. Bryant, who for the past 16 years has been executive fleet engineer with Reed Transport Ltd., the Reed Group's transport organization, is relinquishing his appointment to become managing director of Fromant and Son 'Trailers) Ltd., builders and marketers of Fromm trailers. Mr. Biyant's change coincides with the opening of a new Fromco factory at Ford Aerodrome, Sussex. Fieet engineer with the original Perkins and Glover company, Blackfriars, Mr. Bryant is no stranger to trailer building, having been responsible for the construction of several hundreds of such vehicles of various designs and types in Reed Transport workshops for the company's own use..
Peter Bloomfield has been appointed general manager of York Technical Services Ltd. Mr. Bloomfield was previously in charge of engineering development and equipment sales at York's truck division, G. Jackson Pollock, 43, has been appointed g.m. of York Trailer (Tees) Ltd, he was previously with American Air Filter (GB) Ltd. Keith G. Morris and F. T. C. Lewer have joined the York Trailer Co. Ltd. Clifford C. Appleby, 33, has been appointed chief engineer of Highway Trailers (Great Britain} Ltd. Mr. Appleby has been with Highway for the past five years and, until his new appointment, was the company's chief designer. Previously. he was with Taskers Ltd.
John Sharman, 44 has been appointed National Carriers. Ltd. depot manager at Northampton, in charge of an area that includes Bletchley, Daventry, Leighton Buzzard and Wolverton. Mr. Sharman has been assistant depot manager at Leicester since 1968. Stuart Kerslake, 31, has been appointed depot manager at Margate, in charge of an area that includes Canterbury. Herne Bay, Ramsgate and Whitstable.
James Forrest has been appointed transport manager to the Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board to succeed K. J. McRae. Mr. Forrest joined the Board's transport staff in 1960 and has been workshop supervisor for the past seven years. Geoff Phillips, the transport manager of G.W.B. Boilers Ltd., a Parkinson Cowan Company, has recently been elected a Fellow of the Industrial Transport Association. Mr. Phillips, of Wolverhampton, has been chairman of the Wolverhampton division of the Association for the past four years, and a national council member for seven years.
Robert J. McFetridge has been appointed manager at Larne for Containerway and Roadferry Ltd. Mr. McFet ridge has been in the transport arid shipping industry since 1944.
E. A. Sample has been appointed manager, dealer development department, of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain) Ltd. He succeeds B. H. Snaith, who has been appointed sales director of Goodyear--Australia.
J. H. G. Carr has been appointed general manager of the transmission bearings division of the recently formed British bearing organization. Ransome Hoffmann Pollard Ltd. (BHP). whose group chief executive is G. W. Barlow.
Peter Bonner has been appointed managing director of Jones Cranes Ltd„ he remains managing director of Jones Reinforcement Ltd. The George Cohen 600 Group also announces the appointments of Derek Morris as managing director of KL Foundries Ltd., and W. L. Brazier as deputy managing director.
OBITUARY
We record, with regret, the death of Ellis W. Bebbington.
Mr. Bebbirigton, 51. was for 17 years transport officer of the National Farmers' Union and represented the union as a user member of the FTA.
