FREIGHTLINERS are to provide Orient Overseas Container Lines with a complete transport package from ships docking at Southampton to the customers and collection of empty containers.
The new contract involves a move for 00CL's port operations from Felixstowe to Southampton—but this is also because the Suffolk port could not handle new container ships. Freightliners will be providing collection services from the ship and arranging Customs clearance and delivery to customers. They will then be collecting empty containers and dispatching them to Southampton.
00CL estimates that it will be handling 6,000 containers this year, mainly 20 and 40ft dry containers with some reefer traffic.
