Germany's Production Increasing.

Germany's production in freight automobiles during 1910, based on returns furnished by 108 firms and on estimates for another six, is officially placed at 790, or 154 more than in 1909. Her production in stripped chassis for transport work, sold or handed over by the producers to other works, was 331, that is, an increase of 246 chassis. Germany's entire motor output in 1910 is valued at some 15,900,000, as against £1,000,000 in 1909. In 1910, she had 114 firms giving employment to 21,813 persons, who received 21,238,200 in wages and salaries.

Further Notice to Quit for Berlin's Horsed Cabs.

With the object of still further reducing the number of horsed cabs in Berlin, which are now in excess of the demand, the President of Police gives notice that he is prepared to grant a licence for a petrol cab in exchange for 10 horsed-cab licences to every cabproprietor who was working from 5 to 10 horsed cabs on 1st January of the current year, provided that he cancel the 10 licences by the end of September. Naturally, the cabowner who chances not to possess 10 horsed cabs will have to purchase the failing licences before he can work a petrol cab. Excluded from favour are owners who availed themselves of a similar arrangement early last year—also owners who commenced working cabs after 1st January, 1909.

German Army Favours Fowlers.

That Fowler's steam tractors were .used to bring up supplies for the German soldiers pushing on towards Paris in the war of 1870, I stated in a paragraph some time back. Lieutenant-colonel v. Bremen, in an article on "The first Power-wagons in the War of 1870," contributed to the official organ of the Imperial Motor Club, writes that two Fowlers were purchased at Geestemiinde, and turned up at Pont-A-Mousson on 30th August. The pair straightway demonstrated their hauling powers by towing 15 wagon loads of provisions to Cornmercy, via Told, over 25 miles of inferior roads. Subsequently. they hauled, in three days, a railway engine and tender over the same road ; and rendered further valuable services. And if hostilities should again break out, "John Fowler" will doubtless be on the spot, for, notwithstanding the ad

vane& of petrol, the Leeds traction engines still have warm advocates in the German Army.

The Agrimotor Competition at Montevideo.

It is of interest to note that the president. of the jury entrusted with the granting of awards in the forthcoming international competition for motor-driven agrimotors at iontevideo hails from Germany, being Professor 0. Karsdoll, who has frequently directed the attention of his fellow-country. men to the prospects of such machines in South America, particularly in the State of Uruguay. The entry-fee per machine is 50 dollars in gold, and this, together with the formal notification of entry, must reach the, Assoiacinn Rural del Uruguay, Montevideo, by 1st May at the latest. Machines entered for competition are admitted dutyfree, and transported gratis over the railway to the " estancia " providing the scene of the trials.

How Germany Fosters Industry.

The "German Permanent Exhibition-Commission for the German Industry " is ready to assist German makers of motor-ploughs to participate in the International Competition of Agricultural motors in Montevideo which is to Cake place from 1st April to 1st October of the current. year. This competition will be organized by the Uruguay Agricultural Society and the Ministry of Industry of that State.

It is of interest to note that the Germano Russian Association, founded for the purpose of furthering trade between Russia and Germany, has become affiliated to the Association of German Automobile Makers. One of the first things the newly-affiliated body will do is to prepare, for circulation in Russia., a complete list, printed in Russian, of all German motor and motor-accessory firms who desire to push their export trade in Russia.
