IF YOU DON’T run, you rust. This is clearly something Nigel Cook, Elddis Transport MD, has taken to heart. He was selected to run in his hometown leg of the Olympic Torch Relay in Consett, County Durham, on 16 June.

At about 300m in length, the run wasn’t quite the physical challenge that he’s used to. Cook was nominated after he ran 10 half-marathons over eight months (one in the Arctic Circle) to raise £23,000 for the Willow Burn Hospice, a local charity Elddis supports.

Cook, who described it as a fantastic experience, told CM he won’t be flogging his Olympic gear on eBay, adding that – aside from school visits to promote sport – the highly prized torch is “locked away in a safe place”. So not yet on display in his toilet at home...
