Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Striking bus drivers employed by Hull's biggest operator, Kingston upon Hull City ,Transport, returned to work last week after voting to accept an 8.8% pay offer.

The strike involved 290 drivers and 50 ancillary staff. It lasted two and a half weeks and caused the company to lose 10 school bus contracts. The dispute also took its toll on businesses in the city as many shoppers were confined to their out-of-town estate homes.

Other bus companies in the area made the most of providing services that KHCT was unable to honour but many could not keep up with the demand.

Humber Stagecoach managing director Phil Hunter says that he and other companies do not have the vehicles to match the services usually run by KHCT.
