• Lorry driver Ronald Meredith, of C a stl eri Drive, Langley, Manchester, was foul guilty at Manchester Crown Court last we of stealing 700 cases of chickens valued £2000. He was given a nine-month prim sentence, suspended for two years.
Prosecuting, Mr Giles Wingate-Saul to the court that Meredith, a driver employ+ by 'Premier Poultry, of Fir Street, Heywoo Lanes, told another driver to tranship ti stolen birds into Meredith's own vehicl "The accused then drove away and ti chickens were never seen again", he added.
