Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• EC Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock is finally intervening in the French compensation dispute and has called a meeting of all European trade associations and affected hauliers to discuss the matter.

The meeting, to be held in Brussels on 23 September, will examine what progress has been made with the 2000, claims submitted to the French author• ides, of which half come from British companies.

In a letter to the International Road Transport Union, EC Transport Director General Robert Coleman says: "Commissioner Kinnock is particularly concerned at the current state of affairs. He is therefore seeking to use all possible means to ensure that the claims are processed quickly and the affected firms compensated."

The Road Haulage Association has welcomed the news of Kinnock's involvement, albeit belated. "We've consistently been calling for greater support from the commission," says a spokesman. "In the fight to get our members the justice and compensation they deserve, we are grateful for all the help we can get."
