A HAULIER that lost almost a third of its fleet after an arson attack has been served with a petition to wind it up by Revenue & Customs.
The petition on Brian F Curran Haulage will be heard in the Royal Courts of Justice in London on 4 May.
The company was targeted by arsonists in January 2009, and police say four of the operator’s 14 trucks were destroyed in the blaze at its Halifax premises. Following the fire, North East Traffic Commissioner Tom Macartney cut the firm’s licence until it could demonstrate it had recovered financially and sorted out maintenance problems. Curran claims there were “a few different reasons” as to why the business hit financial problems, adding that the arson attack “didn’t help; it stuffed me, to be fair”.
He adds: “It cost over £38,000 in various payments and it takes some getting over.” Curran says he hopes to start a new business shortly.
