“The reality of life is that if Russell Davies had stayed as Russell Davies then I would still be there; I loved it,” says Ashworth. “It was a great place to work and Glyn created that atmosphere. We were made to feel the best.” Ashworth set up Goldstar Transport 13 years ago and says he has used some of the lessons he learnt under Davies.
He adds: “[Russell Davies] was a fabulous place to learn. We didn’t do everything right, we did some things wrong, but in my business I have tried to bring the good here. If someone from Russell Davies came in here, they would see it.” He remains in contact with Glyn, and says he still seeks advice from him. “He’s an intimidating individual, but nicely intimidating,” he adds. “I have to remind myself he’s not my boss anymore. He’s held in enormously high regard in the industry.”
