DAVID CORNELIUS has been made deputy director of the Transport and Road Research Laboratory after 18 months as assistant director.

Mr Cornelius first moved to the TRRL in 1964 to carry out research into concrete materials for road and bridge construction before becoming head of the Structural Properties Division in 1970.
