Gerald Duckworth, director of planning of the National Bus Company, retires on Monday on account of ill health. His responsibilities now rest, on a permanent basis, with G. M. Newberry, director of operational development.

T. Paull and G. A. Johnson, respectively contracts and marketing manager of North Eastern British Road Services, now become directors. Mr Paull has been in the transport industry since 1 936 — for the past six years Yorkshire contracts manager. Mr Johnson started as a van boy with Boults Tillotson; joined NMU (Northern Motor Utility) two years after the war and became a BRS depot manager in 1960.

Barry Thornton, 26, who joined Constantine Forwarding, a member of the Con stantine Group, two years ago as an export clerk, is to head the organization's recently created specialist import department and will be located at the Midlands office in New Street, Birmingham. Percy Parry has been appointed director and general manager of the £250,000 truck centre just opened by Kays Birmingham Ltd at Shefford Road, Aston, which will provide sales and service facilities for British Leyland cv operators in the area. Mr Parry was formerly fleet sales manager in Birmingham and Stourport for Burton & Cole Ltd, which became part of Giltspur group in 1970 and changed its name to Kays Birmingham.

Michael Florey, 44, joins Nationwide Storage, operated by Flockvale Ltd, of Milton Trading Estate, near Abington, Oxfordshire, as general manager. Bill Cook, 32, becomes midlands manager; and Ken Saunders, 48, northern area manager. Mr Florey was with United Dominions Trust, and Mr Saunders has worked for British companies such as Automotive Products in Germany, Holland and Belgium. Mr Cook has 14 years' warehousing experience.

George Livesey, formerly a district superintendent with Lancashire United Transport, has been appointed deputy manager of Eastbourne Borough Council Transport Department.

David Webb, previously manager in Birmingham for Midlands BRS, has been appointed managing director of G. and K. Haulage Ltd, Dudley, with special responsibilities for diversification and expansion of operations into contract hire and temperature-controlled haulage.

Obituaries We record with regret the deaths of George Harris, Frederick Meeks and Billy Nelson.

Mr Harris, 54, had beer Metropolitan South Easterr area secretary of the Roac Haulage Association sincE 1959. Before that he waE assistant secretary. Mr Harris started his career a year oi two before the war with Associated Road Operators where he was employed at area organizer.

Mr Meeks, 101 -the aides inhabitant of Ripley, Derby shire — was in business fol many years as a haulage contradtor until his retire ment.

Mr Nelson, 32, an Eckington Derbyshire, haulier, anc racing motorcyclist, died ir hospital in Yugoslavia follow ing a crash on a racing circuit.
