Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An order for 150 chassis for one-man double-deck buses is to be placed with Leyland Motors Ltd. by Glasgow Corporation. The contract is worth about £600,000.

No estimate has yet been drawn up for the coachwork, but since the buses will have automatic transmission, power steering, and an extra door compared with conventional vehicles, the total cost is likely to be well over £1 m.

The municipal transport committee, which approved the purchase of the chassis on Monday, already have 36 one-man doubledeck buses on order.

Bailie John Warren, convener of the committee, said the first of the 36 already ordered would soon be delivered, but agreement would need to be reached with the bus workers' union before they could be brought into service. It was possible they would be in use in December.
