Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE PREMIER MOTOR CO., LTD., ASTON ROAD, BIRMINGHAM.

Upon examining the parcelcar shown on Stand 105, it was at once evident that this maker had studied points in the construction calculated to give Premier users a minimum amount of trouble. Good sized lugs and brackets, bearings of ample length, ease of access to the control : all bear witness that these important features of parcelear design were not afterthoughts with this maker. A 7 h.p. J.A.P. engine constitutes the power unit. This is water-cooled, a gilled tube radiator being disposed each side of the chassis. A Bosch magneto affords H.T. ignition and the spaiking range is hand controlled. Two travelling speeds are provided ; a neat pedal actuates the lower, whilst a small tiller handle controls the top.

The change-speed gear fitted is made under Roe licence. A Hans Renold roller type of chain transmits the final drive to the back wheel ; two foot-operated brakes take effect on a drum placed on either side of the rear road wheel.

h.empshall non-skid tires are fitted, the rear dimensions beim 700 mm. by 85 min, and those on the front 650 mm. by 65 mm. Either closed or open-type of body can be supplied, according to the nature or the bulk of goods to be carried. the load capacity of the carrier being 5 cwt.

Wall Front-seater.

A. W. WALT. AND Co., Roc MOTOR WORKS, HAY MILLS, BIRMINGHAM.

The most striking parcelcar exhibit is staged on Stand 143 occupied by this well-known Midland manufacturer. Reference to the illustration will no doubt bear out our remarks. The equipment has been constructed to the order or W. H. King, Ltd., of Euston. A roomy box van type of body is mounted, and a canopy provides ample protection for the driver.

The outfit is capable of carrying loads up to six cwt. An 8 h.p. Precision twin air-cooled " Vee " engine provides the motive power, and this is situated under the front scuttle of the body. There is a double reduction in the transmission, the first taking place in an epicyclic gear bolted direct to the. crankcase, the final reduction by bevel being enclosed in the differential ease of the back axle.

There are examples of transmission and other component parts shown on this stand which, on inspection, will give evidence of the high-class design and workmanship incorporated in Wall productions.

This maker is catering for every branch of the parcelcar industry, and we noticed a special type of body, particularly suitable for bakers and confectioners, and which is provided with special forms of louvres to give the necessary ventilation when carrying bread arid confectionery straight from the bakers' ovens. A feature worth mentioning is that the main exhaust pipe is carried well to the rear of the chassis, so that it is impossible for products of combustion to contaminate the goods carried.

An order-book rack is fitted in a convenient position in the front of the driver, which gave evidence of attention to little details, particularly of advantage to any tradesman's driver.

The price of Wall parcelcars is 1!87 10s. fitted with single-cylinder engine, and the twin cylinder type of £94 17s.

Warrick Excellence.

j. WARRICK AND CO., LTD., 34, ST. MARY'S BUTTS, READING.

The best Collective exhibit at the Show is that on Stand No. 10,1, no fewer than eight machines being staged, ordered by the following purchasers. The G.P.O. ; Messrs., Wyatt and Sons, purveyors, London ; Messrs. Ridgway and Co., tea merchants, London ;, G. Medhurst, draper, Bromley ; D. Evans, draper, London ; J. T. Hart and Sons, Central Market, E.C. ; Debenham. and Freebody, Ltd., drapers, London ; Gilbert Reeves, wine and spirit merchant, London.

This manufacturer's type of carrier is now so well known and so extensively employed that little remains for us to say about its merits.

An air-cooled engine, capable of developing 9 b.h.p., is mounted under the driver's seat ; cooling is assisted by means of two fans, each friction-driven off one of the two flywheels. Free engine running is provided, whilst the clutch is operated by a tiller handle. The steering of the machine is controlled by the same means, both hand levers being conveniently situated in front of the driver ; that for steering is capable of swinging over for the easy access to the driver's seat. Lubrication is under direct control of the driver, a small heelactuated pedal being suitably positioned by which the necessary amount of lubricant is pumped into the engine crankcase as desired, it only being necessary to fill up the oil tank with pint of lubricant each morning.

A constructional feature worthy of 6pecial mention is the main frame. The fact that relatively commodious bodies are now being fitted to parceicars, which are often loaded with comparatively heavy goods, such as wines, bottled beers, mineral waters, etc., necessitates the elimination, as much as possible, of body overhang. The War rick people cater for this by outsweeping the forward portion of the frame thereby reducing overhangs of the body. The company also builds its chassis according to the class of goods to be carried.

The machines are capable of taking loads up to six or seven cwt. ; the price of the standard Warrick six-cwt. parcelcar is 100 guineas. Morgan Runabout. THE 1/111ORGAN CO., MALVERN.

This make of runabout has been before the public for three years, and during that time has proved its efficiency and reliability in many important public trials. The feature of this outfit is the interchangeable type of body. A pleasure two-seater can be replaced for the commercial type within five minutes, it being only necessary to take out a couple of bolts.

An h.p. air-cooled Precision " Vee "-type engine constitutes the prime mover.; this is situated under a, bonnet in front of the driver. Coventry chain is utilized for final drive, and all the main shafts in the transmission are _mounted on ball bearings. Two running speeds are provided.

The body is capable of carrying loads up to 1* cwt. Stepney road grip tires are fitted, the dimensions being 700 mm. by 80 mm. The price of the Morgan convertible carrier is £93; screen, 25s. extra.

Side-carriers of Sorts.

There are quite a number of this class of commercial equipments staged this year. On inquiry at some of the stands we were informed that this type is appealing much to the retail tradesman, as it is possible for him to exchange the goods body for a pleasure one. .Prominent exhibitors in this respect were Mills-Fulford, Ltd., Crown Works, Coventry. The exhibit here which caught our eye is built for carrying newspapers, and is. the sixth repeat order for the " Daily Mirror" publishing house. The body is strongly built and well strapped, and is capable of carrying 5 cwt.. of newspapers at a time.

In the matter of newspaper distribution it will at once be realized that this type of outfit will afford a ready and economical means for the quick distribution of express news. The carrier, as shown in our illustration, is connected up to a 7 h.p.

Indian bicycle. One of our illustrations shows another sidecar outfit. This was staged by the Bramble Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Charterhouse Mills, Coventry. .

The chief feature is what the manufacturer terms his chassisless principle of construction.

This must in no way mislead the reader as to the load-carrying properties of the Bramble production. It was pointed out to us that the frame is built integral with the body, and is composed of one-piece mild steel angle bent " shape. It will be realized from this brief description that there are no brazed lugs utilized in the building of this parcel carrying attachment.

We also include illustrations of two excellent examples of stoutly built sidecar attachments. That on the left shows a speciality staged by the Clyno Manufacturing Co., Pelham Street, Wolverhampton, and that on the right manufactured by that pioneer of sidecars W. Montgomery and Co., Gosford Street., Coventry. There are several good features incorporated in this carrier, one of which is that the chassis construction embodied in it two tubular rear axles, one disposed above the other ; another is the patented three-point suspension, utilizing only laminated springs.
