Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Family and friends of a truck driver jailed in Greece for smuggling refugees have launched a nationwide campaign for his release.

Greek police stopped David Wilson, who owns 3D Transport in Bradford, last Monday at Patras port in Greece as he waited to board a ferry to Brindisi in Italy. His truck was a searched and 19 Iraqi immigrants were found underneath his load of cotton. Wilson said that the immigrants must have sneaked on board while he was asleep in his vehicle.

He was tried the next day and sentenced to 11 years in jail. He was also fined £47,000 by the court and told to pay an extra £21.000 to be released from prison immediately and have his vehicle returned.

Wilson's brother-in-law Richard Frier, in Greece, says: "He didn't have anything to do with this. The prosecution councillor said that he was innocent; even the Iraqis backed this up. The case should have been quashed. We have lodged an appeal but this can take up to eight months."

A spokesman from the Foreign Office says the British consulate is monitoring the situation. If you would like to make a donation to the 'Free Willy Appeal', contact: Paul Willis on 01274 414123.
