• The 60-member strong Transport Association's new commercial venture will be called Linq Alliance, Moan exclusively reveal.

The TA's plans for the company have been in the pipeline since late last year (CM 31 Oct-6 Nov 2002) but now progress seems rapid, with an official launch expected in April. Its directors have been drawn from several of the TA's high-profile member firms. They are: Bob Terris from Southampton firm Meachers Transport; Eddie Anderson from Aberdeen haulier ARR Craib; Ken Devereux from Billingliam-based KW Devereux & Sons; Peter Simpson from Newcastle operator Simpson Bros; and Stuart Gornthwalte from Lancashire transport company SJ Bargh. A managing director is yet to be appointed.

The alliance is thought to comprise around 30 of the TA's members with firms such as Baylis Distribution. Gerry Jones Transport Services, Evans Transport, QTR Transport and James Nuttall (Transport) all involved.

The new venture marks a dramatic change of direction for the TA, which was previously an operator's 'self-help' club—offering assistance to other members with operational problems such as parking and maintenance But the new company will now enable TA member fires to bid for large distribution

contracts like rival alliance Jigsaw and TA memt Wisbech roadways, It may also be able to offer a cA tam n amount of continental distribution through involvement of Northampton-based firm EM Rage
