Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Used truck sales specialists report a mixed marketplace picture countrywide. Political and economic uncertainty is making some transport companies think twice before spending, although there's still lots of interest in rigids.

"We're having quite a good run at the moment," says Keith Whitaker, used truck sales manager at Renault Trucks South. "There's plenty of demand for 18tonners with box bodies, and for Premium tractors too if they've got the Privilege cab."

"The market's fairly reasonable, with a steady demand for 7.5-tonners in particular," reports Tim Robinson, used sales manager at ERF and I suzu dealer Reliance, which has depots at Brighouse and Hull.

"There's a lot of interest in older ERF tractors too," he adds. "The fibreglass cabs don't rot and Cummins engines can be repaired cheaply, so they're a sensible bet if you've got to operate an older vehicle."

"Customers are always after Vitos—they're in short supply—and the Sprinter still goes well," says Graham Beckett, salesman at Mercedes-Benz dealer Ciceley's Bolton branch. "Even high mileage examples sell."

"Things are fairly quiet at present," says Fred Palmer of Iveco dealer Grays Trucks Guildford depot. "We're not selling many box vans at 7.5-tonnes, although tippers and dropsides at that weight remain popular."
