on-going haulage contract to deliver sand, aggregates and tarmac around a 60-mile radius. He's currently covering around 2.000km a week, which brings his safety inspection forward to every four weeks. "Overall the Alpha 8x4's been a great buy," says Andy,
"The only real problem with it has been the shock absorber mountings, yet Foden still undertook the belated modification work, even though the original warranty had expired."
He's well pleased with the 380hp Cat 0-10 engine's performance. "We change the oil and filters periodically and it runs just great."
The truck's covered 412.000km and has had new steering axle brake linings and just prior to this safety inspection, mechanic Andrew Res also re-shod the first drive axle.
It's still on the original clutch, but all this is probably testi
mony to Andy Crockett's driving ability, and his regular use of the Jake.
The only other problem experienced was a worn out body floor but, for a tipper, that's just normal wear and tear.
