• The inventor of an anti jackknife device has issued a writ for libel and malicious falsehood against Lucas Industries, one of its employees and the BBC, following comments allegedly made on the John Dunn Radio Two programme last month.
Fred Hope, managing director of Hope Technical Developments, alleges that Lucas chief engineer Malcolm Brearley claimed on the programme the device was liable to seize up and make a vehicle uncontrollable.
