Keywords : Nutts Corner

• The first phase of the new Northern Ireland RTITB Centre began on Wednesday at Nutts Corner, near Belfast, the opening ceremony being performed by Mr. Ross Campbell, chairman of the board. The 33-acre site, a disused military airfield, has heavy runways available for training.

Phase 1 has included preparation of the roads, ramp, skidpan and manoeuvring area and the erection of temporary accommodation. Phase 2 will cover the building of the garage, forecourt and parts department. Phase 3 will include the erection of the

administrative building with lecture MOMS and conference facilities. Training for Management level is to be included in the future programme.

The first driver training course began on June 9. After the first year the promotors anticipate training about 600 drivers annually.

An interesting aspect is that the temporary accommodation now available has been built by first-year apprentices of the Construction Industry Training Board.

The fleet at present consists of two articulated units, three flat rigids and one box van. A further rigid vehicle and a minibus are likely to be added later.
