Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CM brings you alternative views from experts allied to road transport Detective Sergeant Tony Moore is the officer in charge of crimes and partnership at Operation Grafton.

It's what every driver dreads — being pulled over, getting held up at gunpoint and having to hand over their m Ilion-pound load.

So the first thing they are going to de after it happens is call the police, right?

Wrong. It seems as though drivers call everyone but the police first when they've been robbed and, frankly, this is a problem for the team at Operation Grafton.

Its a problem because It slows things down when officers are trying to solve the crime. Why? Because by the time the driver has finally got around to dialling 999, the criminal has got away.

It's so simple —just three numbers punched into a phone: 999. You'd think your average truck driver would want to get the load and their vehicle back as quickly as they can, but how can the police do that if they haven't been called in the first place?

Panic is the cause, as you might expect following a robbery. When drivers panic, the first thing they do after the ordeal has unfolded is call the bass. They think they're going to be in trouble if they don't report it to him first.

But the bottom line is this. If the police know straight away that a truck has been stolen they can intervene while the thief is making a getaway. If they don't, they can't.

Sure, people might say that the police didn't do this or that following an incident. But we're not miracle workers; we can't pull things out of a hat.

If we don't find out about a robbery or hijacking until four hours after the event, there is not a lot we can do. "If the police know straight away about a truck theft, they can intervene while the thief is making a getaway"
