A H P AHP Trailers Ltd, Heath Mill Road, Wombourne, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.

AHP, which commenced making trailers in 1972, now produces a wide range of conventional trailer models including flat platforms, skeletals, platform skeletals, TIR tiltcovered semi-trailers and tipper chassis. More specialized coil carriers, step-frame platforms and caravan transporters are also produced.

Trailers are built to individual customer requirements with regard to such items as side-rail section, height of headboard and spacing of out-riggers, ARROW Arrow Construction Equipment Ltd, Cowpen Road, Blythe, Northumberland Tilting trailers constructed to carry wheeled or tracked plant as well as more orthodox semi-trailers are manufactured under the range name of Target.

The tilting platform trailer is available as a drawbar trailer plated to 14 tons gross trailer weight or a semi-trailer plated up to 27.5 tons gross trailer weight. Units are fitted with manual or electric/hydraulic tilting gear and semi-trailers feature the heavyduty Target walking-beam suspension and spring-actuated parking and emergency brakes. The peripheral-framed trailer is fitted with York running gear.

Other models available include flat platforms, TIR tilts, skeletal and van semi-trailers.

A recent addition to the range is a multipurpose Coil carrier/flat platform /container carrier plated, as the other conventional models, to 30 tons gross trailer weight.

B&B B & B Trailers Ltd, CLueensway, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire B & B makes caravan and lightweight independent suspension chassis for light trailers, luggage trailers, etc. Chassis incorporate the company's own design of coil-spring and hydraulic damper suspension and the company produces its own under-gear equipment for axles up to about 2 tons capacity.

BODEN See Crane Freuhauf BRIDGE Bridge Trailers Ltd, Morley, Yorkshire All forms of singleand tandem-axle semitrailer including flat-platform, skeletal and step-frame designs are produced by Bridge for operation up to 32 tons gcw. Rather than offering a standard range the company builds trailers to operators' specific requirements.

Low-loaders and special drawbar applications for payloads up to 100 tons are also produced. Removable, knockout or hydraulic goosenecks are offered for lowloader models.

BROCKHOUSE Brockhouse (Victoria Works) Ltd, Vehicle Division, Victoria Works, Hill Top, West Bromwich, Staffs, B70 OSN The Expediter range of fifth-wheel semi-trailers plated for operation up to 27.25 tons gross trailer weight and automatic coupling semitrailers with gross trailer weights between 7.75 and 14.6 tons are produced by Brockhouse. The automatic coupling is of the non-collapsible variety.

The Expediter range includes single and tandem-axle low-loaders, skeletals, dualpurpose semi-trailers and bulk load vans. Drawbar units and other semi-trailer models are built to customer requirements.

Some TIR specification trailers are fitted with steerable rear axles. Running gear is either Brockhouse-designed employing tubular axles or of Rubery Owen manufacture.

ANTHONY CARRIMORE Anthony Carrimore (Sales) Ltd, North Road, Harelaw, Co. Durham Virtually every type of trailer is built by this company. Car transporters based on semi-trailer or drawbar configurations and able to carry up to nine cars are built and a special version is quickly converted to a flat-platform or container carrying semitrailer for general cargoes.

Straightforward car transporters, some models with sufficient between-deck clearance to accommodate Transit-size vans, are plated for operation up 19 tons gcw, while the special model is plated to 30 tons gcw.

The latest model of drawbar trailer transporter incorporates hydraulic lifting rams enabling vehicles to be driven up the hingeddown deck of the trailer straight onto the rigid chassis superstructure.

The company also produces detachable gooseneck semi-trailers with payload capacities ranging from 20 to 60 tons. They have a detachable rear bridge, interchangeable beds, a single-spring suspension up to 45 tons and walking-beam suspension beyond this weight. Tipping semi-trailers with steel or alloy bodies are supplied for operation at gross trailer weights between 24 and 50 tons. Single or twin ram hoists rosy be specified.

CARVEYOR Carveyor Ltd, Lichfield Road, Tamworth, Staffordshire This company manufactures a range of vehicle transporters. The model 700 transporter is plated to 17 tons gross trailer weight and can carry up to seven cars or a mixture of light vans.

Loading of the upper deck is accomplished by hinging it down on to the rear of the lower deck. Hydraulic rams to each side on the bogie centre-line raise and lower the upper deck.

The model 600 is a 9-metre rigid double deck rigid drawbar outfit with a 9-metrelong close-coupled twin-axle drawbar trailer. A total of nine vehicles can be carried on the outfit.

The model 800 is a commercial vehicle carrier which can handle a mixed load of long wheelbase chassis and agricultural tractors and vans.

All trailers utilize hydraulic power from a unit-mounted pto.

CHAR ROLD Charrold Ltd, St Peters Road, Huntingdon, PE18 7DL Charrold's main production consists of specia list-built vehicles including all-welded monocoque designs and U-form bodies. Bulkers are conveyor discharge non-tipping and gravity discharge types.

Conventional tipping trailers are made with capacities up to 20-21 tons and they are fitted with either single, tandem or tri-axle bogies. Other trailers incorporating pneumatic discharge are also available in the same capacity range. Gravity discharge hopperbodied trailers for granular cargoes are produced, as are similar types equipped with conveyor-belt discharge.

Materials used in construction include steel, aluminum, wood and composite. Rubery Owen running gear is specified.

COOK & TALBOT Cook & Talbot Engineers Ltd, Oxford .Street, Hull, Yorkshire Low-loaders and purpose-built trailers for road and site work constitute the C & T range.

One example is a drop-frame, rear loading semi-trailer designed for the drive-on loading of plant and equipment such as fork-lift trucks. Maximum capacity in the trailer well is from 6 to 18 tons and total maximum payload from 7 to 20 tons. Single tandem or tri-axle configurations are available.

The company has recently added drawbar tanker trailers to its range. Capable of carrying '1000gal of fluid, they are plated to 6.5 tons gross trailer weight. COURTBURN Courtbum Positioners Ltd, (Specialist Trailer Division) Oakley, Bedford Single-axle, close-coupled twin-axle and turntable steered drawbar trailers most with facilities for ground-level loading are manufactured by Courtburn. Single and closecoupled axle trailers are plated up to 8 tons and but for one or two models feature a tilting or completely lowering trailer deck. To lower the deck, the independently sprung stub axles are hydraulically retracted. The turntable drawbars are plated up to 19 tons gross trailer weight and loading is facilitated using run-on ramps which connect to the trailer beaver tail, Overrun mechanical brakes are fitted to trailers up to 3.5 tons gross trailer weight, three-line air brakes to trailers over 3.5 tons gross.

CRANE FRUEHAUF AND BODEN Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd, Boden Trailers Ltd, Hayes Gate House, Uxbridge Road, Hayes, Middlesex.

Crane Fruehauf, the largest trailer manufacturer in the UK, produces a comprehensive range of trailers, Standard ranges include: flat-platforms, skeleta Is, TIR-type vehicles, frameless vans and in conjunction with Boalloy, the Tautliner.

Apart from conventional trailer models CF produces bulk tippers and hoppers, tankers for liquid cargoes, machinery carriers and transporters for loads exceeding 300 tons.

The latest introductions to the range include the Vanguard 747 van, the Continental TIR, and a bottom discharge dump semi-trailer.

The 747 is designed for high volumetric capacity — a 40ft trailer has a 3380 cu ft capacity. Single and tandem-axle CF running gears are used and the trailers are plated up to 23.25 tons gross trailer weight.

The Continental TIR has been designed to accommodate two 1.2m pallets side by side within the body width. The trailer is plated for operation at 32 tons gcw.

The dump semi-trailer has a 17.75 cu yd, 20-ton payload capacity and is built for such tasks as trench filling or tarmac application. The discharge gates are powered open.

A wide range of running gears suitable for frameless-van and tank designs is also produced by the company.

CRAN FORD Cranford Engineering Co, Mere Platt, Knutsford, Cheshire.

A dual-purpose semi-trailer which may be used as a bulk trailer or, with the sideboards folded down, as a flat platform trailer for carrying general cargoes is produced by Cranford. When the sides are erected, secondary floor plates form a sloping floor over one-third of the main floor width from each side.

The body also houses a conveyor belt beneath removable floorboards which also serve as stiffeners for the load-bearing sides when these are folded down. Bulk grain and other granular materials can be handled. With the sides folded down, trailer deck height is that of a standard model.

CRAVENS HOMALLOY Cravens Homalloy (Sheffield) Ltd, Staniforth Road, Darnall, Sheffield, 59 411.

Integral construction box van semi-trailers — Taskvans — are produced at Sheffield, as are flat platform, step-frame and semi-drop deck trailers with fifth-wheel plate or, for certain models, automatic couplings. In addition TIR tilt-covered semi-trailers are also built here.

Cravens Homalloy (Preston) Ltd, 382 Blackpool Road, Preston PR2 2DP

Insulated and refrigerated integral construction boxvan semi-trailers as well as tipping semitrailers and skeletals are made at Preston. All the .trailers are designed to conform to C and U Regulations.

Cravens Homalloy (Woodville) Ltd, Sun Street, Woodville, Burton-on-Trent Tasktip integral all-welded aluminium body bulk tipping semi-trailers are built at Woodville. Supplied with capacities from 16 cu yd up to 34 cu yd, the trailers are designed to operate up to 32 tons gcw.

DENNISON Dennison Trailers Ltd, Antrim Line, Newtonabbey, Northern Ireland Dennison manufactures a comprehensive range of semi-trailers including flat-platforms, skeletals, tipping skeletals, step-frame machinery carriers and vans.

The Mark 3 model incorporates torque diffuser boxes on tubular cross-bearers to give improved cornering stability, low radius rod pick-up points ensuring a non-reacting bogie under most conditions, and conduit-led air and electrical systems. DIXON-BATE B. Dixon-Bate Ltd, Bridge Works, Chester, CH3 5NA Maximum weight capacity of Dixon-Bate trailers does not exceed 8 tons, yet the range is comprehensive. Among the models are straight and drop-frame units, single-axle close-coupled axle and turntable steered drawbars.

A recent addition to the range is a 6.25 tons capacity ground-level loading semi-trailer which features an hydraulically operated retractable trailing arm suspension which lowers/raises the trailer bed. Maximum loading width is 5ft 7.5 in, The company also makes tanker trailers with capacities up to 1000gal. Trailers with capacities up to 3 tons are produced primarily for use with Land-Rovers. Semi-trailers are supplied with either automatic or fifth-wheel couplings.

DOUGHTY

Doughty Trailer Sales Ltd, 54 Harland Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth, Hants, BH6 4DW

Virtually any type of trailer can be supplied by Doughty. Recent specialist trailers supplied by the company include twe-member timber carrying bolster models with extra twistlock bolsters enabling a detachable flat-platform or ISO container to be carried.

DURAMIN Duramin Engineering Co Ltd, Harbour Road, Lydney, Gloucestershire, GL15 4EN The present range comprises Duravan integral boxvan semi-trailers mounted on single, tandem or tri-axle bogies. Built for operation up to 32 tons gcw, the vans incorporate a rolled-steel underframe assembly with standard Rubery Owen running gear. Models consist of alloy bodied vehicles, or semiinsulated bodies with grp-faced plywood panels or polyurethane foam-cored grp plywood panels. For highly insulated and refrigerated bodies, the company uses grp polyurethane foam sandwich panels. The refrigerated bodies can have hanging meat' rails, and second decks.

All vehicles can be built to meet TIR specifications without modification. Alloy bulk grain semi-trailers suitable for hopper discharge are also produced,

DYSON

R. A. Dyson & Co Ltd, Grafton Street, Liverpool, LB 6RH

Dyson places its production emphasis on lowloaders and purpose-built models. Products range from flats through the trailer spectrum to machinery carriers with capacities up to 200 tons.

Running gear for heavy-duty models is Dyson-made as is a large proportion of other trailer components. However, proprietary axles and running gear may be specified.

Unitized running gear, especially airsuspension units made by Dyson, are suitable for use on integral tankers and other frameless designs where quality of ride is important. The gears are supplied in assembled form on a base frame complete with all the brake gear, and fully piped up.

Air or conventional leaf-spring suspensions and single, tandem or tri-axle gears with selftracking rear axle option on the widespread tandem and tri-axle assemblies are available. EGO ECG Trailers Ltd, The Stoneworka, Silwood Street, Bermondsey, London SEUL ECG manufactures all types of semi-trailer for operation up to 32 tons gcw. Trailers are fitted with RO-R running gear and a dollie is produced enabling trailers to be used for drawbar application.

The company also stocks a large selection of reconditioned used trailers.

EEZION

Eezion Ltd, Stanley Works, Ampthill Road, Kempston, Hardwick, Bedford Ground-level loading semi-trailers and single and close-coupled axle drawbar versions are Eezion's speciality. Single-axle drawbars are plated to 2.7 tons gross trailer weight. The trailers feature a manual /hydraulic retracting suspension which lowers the deck to the ground. Other versions, ground-level loading tippers, have payload capacities up to 5.2 tons.

Tandem-axle trailers are plated to 7.5 tons trailer weight: each has manual/hydraulic deck lowering and may be fitted with a winch.

Single or tandem-axle semi-trailers, again with hydraulic wheel retraction enabling ground-level loading, have payload capacities up to 10 tons.

FROMANT Fromant & Son (Trailers) Ltd, Ford Industrial Estate, Ford, near Arundel, Sussex Production from Fromant is equally divided between standard flat-platform semi-trailers and their derivatives and specially designed heavy-duty drop platform machinery carriers, The carriers have either removable goosenecks or rear bridges and are plated for operation up to 38 tons gross trailer weight.

Tank and frameless van running gear is produced as well as drawbar dollies.

HEARD Heard & Co, Beer Street Works, Beer Street, Yeovil, Somerset Close-coupled axle drawbar trailers measuring 14ft by 6ft and designed for car recovery work are produced by Heard. Present models are for carrying single vehicles and have a carrying capacity up to 2 tons. Trailers are fitted with ball and socket or towing-eye hitches and overrun brakes; suspension is by Avonride rubber.

A longer two-vehicle trailer is on the drawing board.

HIGHWAY Highway Trailers Ltd, Hayes Gate House, Uxbridge Road, Hayes, Middlesex Highway makes a range of straight frame semi-trailers known as the 75 Fleet Special Traiiers which are available in: series M, 20-32 tons gcw; series H, 38 to 44 tons gcw; and series C, 24 to 44 tons gcw skeletals. Tandem-axle coil carriers plated for operation up to 32 tons gcw are also built.

More recently Highway has produced a semi-trailer chassis suitable for dry freight, insulated and refrigerated van bodywork. Other products include two-member chassis tipping trailers and running gear for tank bodies.

The Hydro-couple swanneck low-loader first introduced by D. H. Morgan Engineers is also marketed by Highway. The vehicle has payload capacities up to 25 tons and is mounted on conventional single or tandemaxle running gear,

HOY-G RE EN Hoy-Green Engineering Ltd, Stafford Park 2, Telford, Shropshire, TF3 3AB

This company which has recently moved to the Telford address, manufactures semitrailers for the plant and construction industry. Large trailers with payload capacities up to 80 tons are fitted with detachable swannecks and as an option the rear deck can have an attachment enabling different decks to be used with the tandem or tri-axle running gear. Lighter 12 to 15-ton capacity models have either knock-out axles or detachable swannecks.

Special-purpose trailer chassis include a peripheral frame lightweight structure with deep side-members and are particularly suitable for sliding door or curtain-sided bodywork.

Single and tandem-axle caravan transporter semi-trailers up to 49ft 2.5in .-Iong are also produced as are close-coupled axle drawbar versions which can be 26ft long.

HOYN OR Redment Engineering Ltd, Springwood Industrial Estate, Rayne Road, Braintree, Essex

The Hoynor range of trailers includes tipping and Beaver-tail low-loader semi-trailers and car transporters.

The Mk11 is a seven /eight car transporter with a top-deck length of 49ft 2.51n. and a bottom deck length of 41ft Bin. The MUl is a dual-purpose transporter which can be converted to a flat-platform model for carrying general goods. The MkVII is a step-frame transporter which has sufficient height between decks to carry Transit-size vans. It is fitted with Hands Newsy air suspension.

The drawbar model uses a two-deck drawbar trailer in conjunction with a rigid chassis fitted with the MKVII superstructure. The trailer carries four cars, the complete outfit nine cars.

Tipping semi-trailers offer body capacities up to 65 cu yd and are plated for operation up to 32 tons gcw.

The standard low-loader has a main-deck length of 24ft and has a loading height of 1.75ft. The tandem bogie is fitted with 8.25 — 15 18-ply tyres and each axle is plated to 9 tons. Typical payload at 32 tons gross is 19-20 tons.

IN TER CONSULT Kockum Industries Ltd, Gresham Road, Buckingham Avenue, Trading Estate, Slough S11 4QY

Vehicles for carrying and handling bulk, especially powders and granular materials, are this company's speciality.

Semi-trailers, both tipping and otherwise, are mounted with bulk tanks capable of handling between 525 cu ft and 1450 cu ft. Single, Tandem and tri-axle running gear may be fitted and the containers may be divided to give more than one compartment and each compartment may be separately Controlled.

OLDBURY Isaiah Oldbury Ltd, Reliance Works, Portway Rd, Wednesbury, Staffs

Five basic types of trailer are produced by this company: two-wheeled and four-wheeled close-coupled drawbar trailers, turntable steered trailers, Ackerman steered trailers and conventional semi-trailers. The company produces its own axles with carrying capacities up to 20 tons and maintains that it can produce trailers with carrying capacities of up to 100 tons from home-produced components.

KING King Truck Equipment Ltd, Riverside Industrial Estate, Market Harborough, Leicestershire

Low-loaders and semi-low-loaders are King Truck's speciality and trailers capable of handling payloads up to 600 tons are not uncommon.

The company makes single, tandem, and tri-axle low-loaders for capacities up to 70 tons and step-frame models for capacities up to 50 tons. Many of the trailers are offered with a Hydroneck option. This device permits lowering and raising of front loading semi-trailers by hydraulic methods enabling loading/unloading to be completed by one man in a relatively short time.

Other products include: steering bogies with imposed load capacities up to 30 tons: heavy drawbar trailers i King Scheuerle) incorporating a variety of steerable units and with a payload capacity between 60 and 600 tons; specialized trailers incorporating twothreeand four-axle step-frame trombone trailers, the latter being fitted with a selftracking trailing axle.

Special drawbar units are custom-built by King for transporting heavy electrical generating sets and the like.

Supplementary to these. King manufactures a range of cable drum transporters with payload capacities up to 5 tons.

LO LO DE Simplex Mechanical Handling Ltd, Lolode Trailer Division, Simplex Works, Bedford Single, close-coupled, tandem-axle and other multi-wheeled trailers are produced by Simplex. Single-axle models have pay-load capacities up to 35cwt and specialist cable drum trailers have a maximum 4 tons payload capacity. Apart from the latter model, trailers are designed to operate with LandRovers and are fitted with L-R wheels.

Close-coupled trailers with payload capacities up to 4 tons and steerable axle drawbar models capable of carrying up to 6 tons are both available with three-line air brake systems.

Tipping trailers with 12 cu yd open-top bodies, or 8 cu yd bodies with radiused • sliding doors along both sides, are available for street cleansing, etc.

The company is expecting to produce a range of ground-level loading trailers with single or close-coupled axles and capable of carrying up to 2.5 tons. Overrun or threeline air brakes will be fitted as required.

MERRIWORTH Merriworth (Engineering) Ltd, Eonit Works, Richmer Road, Slade Green, Erith, Kent

This company manufactures most types of trailer in common use, including models for international haulage such as container carriers, TIR-sheeted vans and special TIR models designed for carriage on the Kangaroo and Huckerback rail systems of France, Italy and Germany.

The VP (variable purpose) range comprises flat-platform skeletals with intermediate fullwidth cross-bearers, retractable twistlocks and flush sockets for TIR tilt-frame posts.

The step-frame Supercube tilt-covered trailer provides 2600 cu ft of payload capacity and has an open span tilt superstructure in which the side pillars are easily removable to provide extra wide access when loading / unloading.

M &G M&G Trailers (Lye) Ltd, Hayes Lane, Lye, nr Stourbridge, Worcs, DVS SPA

This company builds a comprehensive range of semi-trailers, each manufactured to customer requirements. Models include flat-platforms, platform skeletals, skeletals, stepframes, extendibles, drawbars, TIR-types, caravan transporters, low-loaders and tipping skeletals. Semi-trailer chassis are also supplied to bodybuilders who put their own alloyinsulated bodies, etc, on to them. The company can also supply a coil carrier/flat platform trailer fitted with twistlocks.

Trailers are produced in single, tandem or tri-axle configurations for operation up to 44 tons gcw. Rubery Owen running gear is used and air suspension units may be specified.

MO SSO M ATI C Moss (Cambridge) Ltd, 146 Hills Road, Cambridge.

Two models of hydraulically lowered lowloading machinery carrier are produced by Moss. Suitable for operation at 20 tons and 24/26 tons gcw, running gear is both extensible and retractable — this allows loads up to 10.5ft wide to be loaded over the rear ramp. In the running condition trailer width is 8ft 2.5in, In practice the body is lowered to the ground, the suspension units and wheels are then hydraulically moved outwards and the load either driven or winched on: the reverse applies when unloading. The body locks automatically in the running position.

MUNICIPAL Municipal Trailers Ltd, Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancs.

Municipal produces a wide range trailers, including flat-platforms, tippers, tankers and vans, etc, for up to 32 tons gcw. Other models frame low-loaders with single, tandem or tri-axle running gear for operation up to 70 tons gcw.

More recently the company has extended its range of car transporters to include twindeck semi-trailer and drawbar versions.

Running gear is of Rubery Owen manufacture and suspensions can be either multior single-leaf or air as required. of semiskeletals, operation are step MURFITT R. Murfitt Ltd, Sandal! Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, PE13 2R R Murfitt specializes in the design and construction of bulk powder, feedstuffs and granular handling equipment. Semi-trailers produced include frameless-design pressure tanks, hoppers, and pressure and gravity discharge non tipping semi-trailers.

Among the cargo handling gear is the company's tipping skeletal semi-trailer designed for use with ISO and Freightliner containers. All the trailers are designed to conform to a full range of gross vehicle weights within C and U Regulations.

Standard proprietary running gears are fitted to customer specification.

NEVILLE Neville Industries (Mansfield) Ltd, Bradder Works, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

Tipping semi-trailers are the speciality of Neville Industries. There are five single-axle designs plated for operation up to 24 tons gcw, and four tandem axle models for operation up to 32 tons gcw. Single-axle semi-trailers have cubic capacities up to 28 Cu yd; three are of frameless or retractingwheelbase type, the others utilize orthodox tipping gear. All have steel bodywork.

The tandem-axle models have steel or aluminium bodies and utilize conventional or retracting bogie methods of tippinb. Typical examples are; the Nimrod frameless tipping semi-trailer which has an all alloy-welded body and can carry up to 22.5 tons payload at 32 tons gcw; and the all-steel Super Ratesaver which can carry a 22-ton payload at 32 tons gcw.

Other variations and off-standard designs can be built, and generally trailers are fitted with single front-end ram tipping gears and Rubery Owen running gear.

NORTHERN VEHICLES Northern Vehicle Distributors Ltd, Unit 7, Dalmarnock Trading Estate, Dalnamock Road, Rutherglen G73 1TB.

This company, which has been mamufacturing trailers for about 18 months, concentrates on producing flat platform, platform skeletal and TIR semi-trailers, but also makes other straight-frame models. Trailers are plated for operation up to 42/44 tons gcw and running gear is RD-ft OVERLAND Overland Contracts (Trailers) Ltd, 28 Berkelly Road, Birmingham, B25 8NG Overland concentrates on prociucing specialist and low-loader trailers. It makes nine models of rear entry low-loader catering for payload capacities up to 24 tons; a detachable swan-neck maybe added for front-end loading. Models are fitted with the company's own rubber suspension or single-leaf suspension.

The Contractor range of front-end loading trailers has been extended to provide payload options to 50 tons while knock-out axle lowloaders are still built for nominal payloads up to 15 tons, although a 25-ton capacity model is available.

Semi-low-loading trailers with capacities up to 25 tons are available as are a range of chassis designed to accept high volumetric capacity van bodies.

Close-coupled twin-axle drawbar trailers with tilting beds are built mainly for public works contractors etc. Trailers have 6 and 8-ton payload capacities and are fitted with three-line air or air-hydraulic brakes depending on model.

OVERLANDER Overlander Trailers Ltd, Wilden Works, Wilden Lane, Stourport, Worcs A wide range of single and tandem-axle semi-trailers are produced by Overlender. Models, include flat-platform skeletals, coil carriers, pure skeletals, dry freight and insulated vans.

There are nine standard models of platform trailer covering gross train weights from 18 to 44 tons. Drawbar trailers are plated for operation between 12 and 16 ton gross trailer weight are also produced.

ROR or York running gear is fitted.

PEAK Peak Commercial Vehicles Ltd, Greg Street, Reddish Peak Commercial Vehicles Ltd has recently been sold to Trailor SA, the French subsidiary of the American Group, Pullman Inc. In addition to its own trailer range, which remains unchanged, the company will also offer Trailor products through its UK distributors.

The forefront of Peak production is straight and drop-frame TIR semi-trailers with capacities up to 2,900 cu ft. The tilt-covered trailers are available with Rubery Owen tandem or tri-axle bogies. Apart from TIR models the company produces a range of flat platform, skeletal, dualpurpose flats, vans and tippers with either straight or stepped frames. Plated for operation between 18 and 38 tons gcw the trailers may be fitted with single, tandem or tri-axle bogies.

PE M Peebles Engineering and Marine Co Ltd, Wallisdown Industrial Estate, Wallisdown Road, Bournemouth, Hants, BH11 8PT PEM's trailers are primarily designed to carry light bulky loads and to operate with prime movers based on the Bedford CF, Carrier WalkThru, or Ford Transit chassis fitted out for antic operation by PEM.

Named the Antic range, the standard model, step-frame semi-trailer vans have capacities up to 2000 cu ft and depending on tractive unit can handle payloads up to 4 tons.

Flat platform semi-trailers are also produced offerring maximum payload capacity of 5 tons at lengths up to 40ft. Further, PEM produces car transporter semi-trailers for use with the previously mentioned prime movers. Available in lengths from 20ft the trailers feature threeline vacuum /mechanical braking and Bramber Flexitor suspension units.

PRIMROSE Primrose Group Sales, Ewood, Blackburn, Lanes Primrose offers a standard range of platform, dual and skeletal semi-trailers for operation at gross weights up to 32 tons. Other models include two standard tandem-axle low-loaders, one with a payload capacity of 12 tons, the other 20 tons.

Drawbar trailers with capacities from 3 tons to 50 tons are made to customer specification and the company will fit any type of running gear including Chalmers rubber suspension.

RM RM Trailers Ltd, Richard Maurice Equipment, New Farm Road, Alresford, Hampshire All types of drawbar unit from two-wheeled to the more conventional two /three-axle with turntable versions are produced by RM.

The turntable versions are available in either flat or step-frame construction with capacities up to 8 tons and have either two or three axles.

Close-coupled and single-axle trailers are available with flat or hydraulic tilt platforms. One such tilt platform is used by local authorities as a tipping refuse trailer with 9in. overrun brakes as standard: servo brake systems are offered.

Cargo trailers considered suitable for local authorities are also produced.

All models have independent rubber suspensions.

REID John Reid & Sons (Strucsteel) Ltd, Strucsteel Works, Christchurch, Hampshire The bulk of Reid's output comprises twowheeled and close-coupled four-wheeled car transporting trailers.

The trailers have payload capacities between 1 Ocwt and 2.5 tons and are said to have a low unladen weight. Rice Trailers Ltd, Portland Works, Cosby, Leicestershire Rice manufacture single or close-coupled axle animal transporter drawbar trailers. Payload capacities range between 10cwt and 3 ton.

RIPPON Rippon Bros. 16 Wood Road, Halewood, Liverpool. 126 lUZ Rippon specializes in constructing vehicles to meet specific transport problems. One specialist vehicle is a flat-platform semitrailer with underslung liquid tanks. For bulky loads such as steel drums the company produces a van or open-framed type van trailer. In addition low-loaders capable of carrying up to 100 tons are produced.

SALOP COUNTY TRAILERS Salop Trailers Co Ltd, Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 5TJ Drawbar trailers of the two-wheeled and closecoupled-axle type constitute standard SCT production. Payload capacities range from 1 ton on a single-axle version to 4.25 tons on close-coupled two-axle models, They all have a towing-eye coupling although clevis-type and 50mm ball-type towing hitches are available — the 50mm ball-type for single-axle trailers only. Towing hitch height can be specified for a fixed level or alternatively can have a range movement of 6in; from 16in. to 22in., or 23in. to 29in.

Trailer models are available with winches, and standard production models are generally equipped with standard axles and leaf-spring suspensions.

SAMSON (George Neville) George Neville Truck Equipment Ltd, Lindleys Lane, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Notts Frameless tipping semi-trailers and conventional frame and body units are produced by GN. Body construction is either all-welded steel or aluminium and payload capacities are up to 70 cu yd, or 23 tons.

With the frameless design GN fits either its own heavy-duty rubber suspension or ROR suspensions.

SEADYKE Seadyke Freight Systems Ltd, Nene Parade, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire Conventional semi-trailers, flat platforms, skeletals and tipping bulkers comprise the main part of SFS production. Single-, tandemand tri-axle running gear is fitted to the trailers which are designed to operate up to 34 tons gcw.

The company also produces what it considers to be a unique dual-floor system for bulkers. Free flowing materials can be gravity discharged through hoppers without the need for trimming. A hinged section deck is mounted on the vehicle floor and as each deck section is hydraulically lifted about its hinge it exposes a hopper outlet in the vehicle platform: the load discharges down the inclined deck section.

SCAM M E LL Scammell Motors, British Leyland UK Ltd, Tolpits Lane, Watford, Harts More recently Scammell has added drawbar trailers and dollies to its range of trailers which already includes single and tandemaxle flat platform, skeletal and tipper semitrailers plus a range of automatic coupling trailers.

The Challenger S range semi-trailer includes single-axle units plated to 24 tons gcw. Flat platform model lengths are from 26ft to 40ft, dual-purpose trailers 30ft to 40ft.

The T range is available at plated weights up to 32 tons gcw, although different running gear options can increase gcw to 34 tons. Trailer lengths run from 23ft to 40ft.

Last year the company introduced automatic coupling trailers built to metric dimensions. Using the Super-safe coupling gear and a single 9-ton axle with cambered axle tube the trailers are plated for operation up to 18 tons gcw at lengths from 6.25m to 11m.

SCOTTORN Scottom Trailers Ltd, Chartridge, Chesham, Bucks Single-axle drawbar trailers with payload capacities up to 2 tons and two-axle turntable or close-coupled drawbar trailers with capacities up to 16 tons are produced by Scottorn.

Trailer chassis can be fitted with generators, pumps and metering equipment or general goods carrying bodies.

The Bushwacker 1 ton payload capacity single-axle trailer can be tipped, without disconnecting the towing hitch, to discharge the load. The Bushmaster 1.75 ton capacity single-axle trailer features a driven axle for operation in rough terrain and is designed to operate with certain Land-Rover models.

Other models include single and closecoupled axle tank trailers with capacities up to 3000gal and single-axle models which can be fitted out as mobile workshops or servicing units.

SF SF Vehicle Builders Ltd, Church Stratton, Shropshire, SY16 6P6 Semi-trailers designed for use with Bedford CF and Ford Transit-type chassis fitted with fifth-wheels are produced by SF. Trailers include a light-alloy boxvan range and a car recovery unit. The boxvans have capacities up to 830 cu ft (payload to 2.2 tons). Bramber Flexitor suspension units and a Feeny and Johnson three-line vacuum brake system are used.

The car transporter has a pressed steel channel-section main-frame and plywood vehicle tracks along each side. Again threeline vacuum braking is used.

STAN BRIDGE Stanbridge (M.C.B.) Ltd, 40 Tilsworth Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire Car • and bus chassis transporters are the sole product of Stanbridge. • One such trailer is a seven-car or fourbus chassis transporter constructed predominantly from 6in. x 3in. channel section.

The trailer is plated at 24.5 tons gross train weight, utilizes Rubery Owen running gear and can accommodate vehicles having a wheel track of 7ft 10in. TASKE R S Taskers Trailers Ltd, Anna Valley Andover, Hampshire. Scottish Division, Blairlinn Estate, Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire, Scotland Taskers makes a wide range of semi-trailers and ancillary equipment. The semi-trailers are produced as a Formula range embodying 10 principal types. Trailers produced include flats, flats equipped with twistlocks, coilcarrying semi-trailers, two-member and tipping semi-trailer chassis and skeletal container carriers.

Knock-out and detachable swan-neck dropframe trailers are offered for transporting plant and other machinery.

Other products include step-frame and dropframe semi-trailers, drawbar trailers and a range of automatic coupling semi-trailers. Trailers are plated to operate up to 32 tons gcw within C and U Regulations while conventional semi-trailers may be plated for operation up to 44 tons gcw and machinery carriers up to 54 tons gcw.

In the trailer accessory field Taskers produces its own single-axle and the Taskalastic bonded rubber suspension. It also makes fifth-wheels and automatic couplings.

TOWMASTE R /TO LLBR I DG E Tollbridge Engineering, 4 Carver Street, Sheffield Tollbridge specializes in the manufacture of motor vehicle recovery trailers and transporters. Drawbar trailers with close-coupled axles can handle payloads between 1 and 2.5 tons., one model carries two vehicles. In addition the company makes a range of special trailers for payloads up to 25 tons; the heavier models are knock-out axle dropframe low-loader semi-trailers.

In addition the company manufactures a standard range of plant carriers with payload capacities from 1 to 4 tons. It also caters for purpose-designed trailers for a wide range of applications including the transportation of heavy generator plant.

WARRINGTON The Warrington Wheel Co Ltd, Hawleys Lane, Longford, Warrington, Lancs Drawbar, singleand tandem-axle semi-trailers including flats, frameless, tankers and TIR tilt trailers are made by Warrington.

All types of running gear are fitted, according to the customer specification. A matched equipment range of trailers,'in which trailers share common components with tractive units thus allowing a degree of parts standardization, is also offered.

WEEKS Weeks and Co (Engineers) Ltd, Bridge Works, Ferry Road, Hessle, Yorkshire, HU13 ODZ Apart from its road-going stillage system based on a drawbar or semi-trailer unit with capacities of 10 tons and 12 tons respectively, the company now manufactures dumper tipping trailers. Carrying capacities range from 3.5 to 10.5 tons for drawbars, to between 8 and 25 tons for semi-trailer models. Designed to customer specification for on /off site operation the trailers feature the company's own bodies, running gear and tipping rams.

Additional models include pole trailers with Weeks' own walking-beam suspensions which are capable of handling up to 40-ton payloads, and industrial low-loaders, again constructed to customer specification and able to carry up to 80 tons.

WOOD HALL W. Woodhall, King Edward Street, Cowley Bridge Road, Exeter Woodhall makes low-loaders and machinery carriers for operation between 25 and 40 tons gross trailer weight, though trailers plated up to 100 tons will be made to order.

All manner of trailer conversions including lengthening refitting of bogies are carried out.

YORK York Trailer Co Ltd, Northallerton, Yorkshire York semi-trailers, except for the latest LoDeck model, are easily recognized by their Yolloy or castellated main frame designs: models include, flat-platforms, skeletals, coilcarriers vans, TIR trailers and extendibles.

Introduced at last year's Commercial Motor Show, the Lo-Deck trailer features a specially designed neck which reduces the trailer deck height over the fifth-wheel coupling by 2in. This allows a further 52 cu ft capacity along the length of a 12-metre TIR trailer operating within the European four-metre overall height limit.

The Teamster trailer is available in lengths from 22 to 40ft with four-axle configurations permitting operation up to 44 tons gcw. Models include flat-platforms, skeletals and platform skeletals; optional extras include alternative headboards, load-carrying, bolsters dropsides, etc.

York has two models for TIR operation — the flat-deck Europa and the steppeddeck Supertrailer. The latter offers a 2810 Cu ft capacity for 12-metre trailers within a four-metre overall body height.

Freightmaster frameless vans are available with a wide range of body lengths and axle configurations.

Special and non-standard trailers for artic/ drawbar application and including car transporters, machinery carriers, low-loaders, tipping bodies, trombone extending trailers and various drawbar models are produced by the York Truck Equipment Division.

York makes a comprehensive range of axles, suspensions, and other trailer components including an automatic coupling dolly.
