Ltd., the man responsible for the design of some of the largest load-carrying vehicles in the world, has retired from his position as Crane Fruehauf's technical director because of ill-health. Mr. Chaplin, who is 62. joined the company, then Cranes (Dereham) Ltd., in 1920 at the age of 16 as an apprentice in the Dereham, Norfolk, works.

Mr. McMullen is transport officer of Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd., chairman of the traffic committee of the Chemical Industries Association, and a member of the Transport Users Consultative Committee for London. Mr. Bond is controller of transport of Stewarts and Lloyds Ltd.. and Mr. Castleton is chief transport officer of the Metal Box Co. Ltd.

A. J. Hammett, traffic manager at Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. has retired after nearly 30 years with the company. Mr. Hammett has represented Dunlop on the TRTA and is also a member of the Industrial Transport Association, of whose Birmingham division he is a former chairman. J. H. Richardson has been appointed a director of Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co. Ltd., and of Hebbk Motor Services Ltd., and has been elected chairman of both companies in succession to R. W. Birch, who has resigned from the boards.

Fred W. Davies, managing director, York Trailer Co., is on a four-week, round-the-world export sales tour.

Arthur Mitchell has been appointed company transport manager of Security Express Ltd., a member of the De Le Rue Group. He was previously transport manager of Tunnel Refineries Ltd., of Greenwich and a transport officer with the Tanganyika and Malayan Police.

J. Rostron, Grimsby Cleethorpes transport manager, has been elected to serve on the Association of Municipal Corporations highways and transport committee.
