• Membership Growing . Satisfactorily. The Association Recognized by the Northern Traffic Commissioner STEADILY increasing membership is being achieved by the Northern Road Transport Owners' Associatien, Ltd., the body which represents private operators of buses and coaches in the Northern

Traffic Area. The formation of this body was dealt with in these pages in our issue dated January 20th.

It is now definitely decided that affiliation shall be sought' to the National Council being formed by the Motor Hirers' and Coach Services Association, the activities of which, the local association believes, will be of the utmost benefit to all operators.

The Northern Association has been recognized by the Northern Traffic Commissioner, Mr. H. Riches, as the negotiating body for private concerns. Operators of buses numbering upwards of 400 are now connected with the association, which it is claimed will, when full representation is secured, be stronger than any combine in the north of England.

It is evident that the public is to benefit by the closer working. The first fruits of the scheme are shown in the provision of facilities for the inter-availability of return tickets between certain points on the routes covered by the County Motor Services, Ltd., Chopping

ton, and Messrs. T. Allen and Sons, Blyth, which latter brm have for some time been responsible for working arrangements with other private concerns.

This northern organization was influenced in its decision to seek affiliation in view of the efforts of the M.H.C.S.A. to secure a modification in Clause 19 of the Road Traffic Act, which deals with the hours of drivers on tours, a point IN hich affects the northern operators. These operators view with satisfaction the steps being taken by the London body to set up a National Advisory Committee -which will negotiate with the Minister of Transport insmatters arising from the operation of the Act in all parts of the country.
