NOTF..—In all the above eases, the prices are for chassis only, f.o.b., Glasgow, and include tires.

The simplicity of construction, and the entire absence of unnecessary complication, together with the certainty of good material and wotkmanship, render it possible for us to recom. mend these machines without the slightest hesitation.

Argylls, Ltd.

Telegraphic address : " Argylls Alexandria."

The Alexandria works have from time to time turned out quite a number of the smaller types of chars-a-banes and single-deck motorbuses. Another branch of passenger-vehicle transport, which this company has tackled successfully, is that dealing with ambulances. We are enabled to illustrate, on p. 41, Section C, a fine example of this class of construction; this has been specially built to the order of the Caithness Board of 'Guardians. The interior equipment of this machine is of the most-modern type; accommodation is found for two patients as well as for the nurse. This comfortable vehicle, which is of the 15 h.p. type, is shod with pneumatics, and in exceptional cases, if thought desirable, it can be arranged for twin pneumatics to be mounted on the rear wheels.

Arrol-Johnston, Ltd.

Works Offices : Paisley and 'Dumfries. Telegraphic address : " Motorcar Paisley."

We refer at some length to the 15.9 h.p. standard ArrolJohnston chassis in the preceding section, which deals with goods transport.. The makers offer this machine for emplo) moot as a 12-seated char-a-bancs or wagonette.

Belsize Motors, Ltd.

Head Office and Wcrks : Clayton, Manchester. Telegraphic address : " Belsize Manchester." Sole export agent : A. W. Roslington, Lloyd's Avenue House, Lloyd's Avenue, London, E.C.

Belsize motorcabs hardly require any descriptive mention in these columns. They have achieved a remarkable popu larity with the owner-driver in London, and are also doing first-class service in many provincial cities in Great Britaiu, as well as Overseas. The machines are found to give good results in regard to maintenance and running costs.

Berna Commercial Motors, Ltd.

London Office : 3, Lombard Street, E. C.

Telegraphic address : " Klibergar London."

We have dealt, in our goods-transport section, at considerable length with the manufactures of this company. It is particularly in regard to goods transport that its already very extensive experience has been achieved. Nevertheless, several of the medium-sized models, of which we give a table in our previous notice, are quite suitable for passengertransport work in its various branch, and the company will be pleased to quote for machines to meet such duties. Bayard Cars, Ltd. (Claimant-Bayard).

H. Buessing.

Works address: Elmstrasse, Braunschweig. Telegraphic address : " Motor Braunschweig."

This German maker has built up a reputation in this country, as we have already noted in Section A, in connection with motorbus operation. We may say, from our own practical experience, that these machines are particularly suitable for passenger-transport purposes of all kinds, whether it be for use with double-deck or with char-a-bancs bodies, or for employment, as is the case on the Continent in many instances, as post-passenger vehicles, by which a mixed load of passengers and small parcels, as well as mails, is carried over routes connecting towns remote from railway systems.

Cedes Electric Traction, Ltd.

Works : Stamford Hill, London, N.

Office : 112, Great Portland Street, London, W.

This concern, which elsewhere we notice as being a manufacturer of battery-propelled fire-brigade apparatus, is also particularly interested in regard to the installation of the Cedes-Stoll trackless trolleybus systems, an alternative which is offered to the modern tramcar, of which the limitations are so rapidly becoming realized by public authorities. So far the Cedes trolleybus system has been constructed for 18 short lines, and amongst these Aberdare and Keighky are two experiments in Great Britain.

Clayton and Co. (Huddersfield), Ltd.

Head Office and Works: Union Works, Huddersfield. London Office : 68, Victoria Street, S.W.

Telegraphic addresses: "Karriakar London" and "Karriakar Huddersfield."

Karrier Cars are in use in the home country and abroad in considerable numbers for passenger-transport purposes, and a speciality has been made of the medium-sized type of singledeck bus. The special Karrier model, in which the engine is situated beneath the driver's seat, is particularly suitable for employment with bodies of the class known as the " Pay-asyou-enter " kind. Chars.-banes of types which are designated at the works as the " Normanton," " Scarborough," "Hull" and " Harrogate," are supplied as standards. The "Hull" type of body has an internal seating arrangement svith only one entrance, and that is at the front by the side of the driver. This body is covered by a permanent hood with roll-up curtains. The " Harrogate ' char-a-bancs is of the modern many-seated pattern, with side doors to each seat and a fold-up Cape-cart hood. The " Scarborough " model has banked char-a-banes seats, with a. collapsible hood, and no side doors ; it is particularly suitable for rapid loading and unloading. Amongst the many users of this Class of machine, we have particularly noticed the popularity of three "carriers which belong to Motor Services, Ltd., of Huddersfield. The district is an exceptionally hilly one, and their performance in and around this Yorkshire centre is unique testimony to their ability to cope with the severe conditions which are often encountered Overseas. We illustrate a Karrier singledecker on page 31..
