Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This journal is extensively read by the heads of many wealthy commercial houses.

The Second North of England Show prompts some further comment at our hands—pages 578 and 579.

The subject of " Booked Times for Regular Traffic" will form the text of a further article in next week's issue.

The L.C.C. decision, with regard to the hiring of two motorvans, for use by the Stores Department, for a period, of five years, is about to be taken.

We are advised that orders for Commer Cars were never flowing in at a greater rate than just now. The proportion of repeat sales is steadily going up.

We announce elsewhere that the War-Office third subsidy trials will open early in September, and will conclude towards the end of October—page 583. The commonigiM is official.

Topical Subjects, Our leading articles this week deal with the following topical subjects: (1) " The L.C.C. Copies the ; " (2) " Tire Standards ;" (3) " Considerations in Relation to the Coming Tax on Renzi)] ; " and (4) " Wasted Opportunities at Show Times."

Subsidy Models for Overseas Markets.

We understand that the policy of TEM COMMERCIAL MOTOR, in its advocacy of Colonial and Overseas applications of the War-Office subsidy-type models, and particularly of the three-ton model, is likely to be very widely adopted during the next few months, and to be encouraged both by the War-Office authorities and other parties. The co-operation of the Crown Agents for the Colonies to. that end has apparently been secured, no doubt in part by the presence on the Mechanical Transport Committee of Mr. Ashton M. Heath, the Chief Engineer to the Crown Agents. This declared line of policy provides th4 fullest confirmation of our contention, that. War-Officimodels are, chiefly by reason of their big wheels and general sturdiness, more economical and suitable for Overseas uses than they will prove to be in many of the ordinary home branches of employment. They are eminently of the right design for use in many of our Colonies, and the War-Office efforts to extend standardization are to be commended, although of indirect— if any—interest to Home owners and users, or, indeed, to the W.O. "The Commercial Motor" is the authority on motor transport, the only journal officially recognised by the Commercial Motor Users Association, carrying a larger rvanarer of advertisement pages than any professedly similar journal and having by far the largest genuine net sale weekly—i.e., • the total number of copies bought by subscribers and the interested public. In view of the foregoing facts, claims of equality or similarity made elsewhere can be judged by interested observers.

The South Metropolitan Gas Co., Ltd., is the latest buyer of a Girhng pareelear.

Mr. Max. It. Lawrence, who holds the Hanford and Wolseley district agencies, has moved to more commodious premises, at 33, Blackfriam street, Manchester. The llowthall Develoement Co., of 79, Queen Street, L.C., is reported to be on the point of buying, 50 Commer Cars, 50 Halleys and 50 Straker-Squires, for a contemplated transport undertaking in the Manchester district. The sucicess of any such undertaking will depend upon the knowledge which the management possesses of Lancashire and Yorkshire conditions, and not only upon the excellent choice of machines which is indicated above.

Alleged' Extraordinary Traffic.

The Hornsey Borough Council seems to be faring rather badly with its proposal to claim against London omnibus companies in respect of motorbus traffic. Following the refusal of the Middlesex County Council to assist, the Council is now faced with additional evidence that it is the duty of the local road authority to make a road strong enough to stand established or imminent traffic. Gazette.

Notices are given of general meetings of the members of (1) the Renard Road and Rail Transport Corporation, Ltd., to be held on 18th March, at 82, Victoria Street, S.W., at 11 o'clock, and (2) the Reilloe Tyre Co., Ltd., to be held on 17th March, at the same address and at the same time, for the purpose of considering the liquidators' accounts showing the manner in which the windings-up have been conducted and the properties of the companies disposed of.

Lancashire's Awakening. Blackburn, in which town some of the earliest activities in road carrying were evident, may be redesigned on a motor-traffic basis, so far as its streets go. Mr. Alfred Nuttall, a well-known Justice of the Peace in the district, has placed a T scheme before the own Council, and this is based upon the belief that express motor traffic has become a necessity for all business purposes. We do not enter in any detail into the 13 considered street improvements which are outlined in Mr. Nuttall's scheme, but we may say that it was received with hearty expressions of approval by the Highways Committee.

The first Lancashire towns which awaken to the necessities of the day, in respect of motor traffic, both as regards highways and warehouses, will undoubtedly reap enormous benefits a few years hence, and in all future time. Timesaving is the element that counts.

Old Straker-Squires.

Sidney Straker and Squire, Ltd., wishes it to be known that numbers of second-hand motorbus chassis, which were originally supplied by it to leading London omnibus companies, were made many years ago. .and do not compare with present-day models from the Bristol works. It is particularly stated that these old models give a. poor petrol consumption, and that alterations to the chassis by the owners has rendered the supply of spare parts by the Straker-Squire Co. a virtual impossibility. The company asks that intending buyers of Straker-Squire chassis will communicate direct to its London offices—Nelson Square, S.E.
