Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the Ministry of Transport on Friday., representatives of the R.H.A., T.R.T.A.,

and S.M.M.T. exchanged frank views with the Ministry on the subject of gross weight plating for vehicles. This meeting enabled the Ministry to sound out operator and manufacturer opinion before drawing up proposed regulations which will be circulated later for comment.

Both operator and manufacturer organizations are in favour Of some plating scheme, at least in principle, but the operators' representatives are particularly anxious that their bodies should be consulted before a firm decision is taken about the method of plating existing vehicles, Meanwhile action is afoot on brakes and electrical equipment. The highways and vehicles committee of the R.H.A. is to meet the S.M.1VI.T. on January 20 to discuss operators' complaints about electrical equipment, and on January 23 is to meet the Ministry to stress its concern about commercial vehicle handbrake efficiencies; at this meeting, use will be made of the figures obtained in joint tests by the Association and The Commercial Motor (see last week's issue).
