Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FIRST phase of spray suppression legislation comes into force next week.

Trailers over 3.5 tonnes design gross weight manufactured after May 1 (next Wednesday) must be fitted with spray suppression equipment that conforms to the British Standard.

For details of the next group of vehicles to need fitment, see CM February 2.

And a study of spray suppression devices for heavy goods vehicles is to be given priority by the EEC Commission.

By considering Communitywide rules, the Commission hopes to pre-empt national legislation already being considered by at least one member country, Belgium.

Commissioner Lord Cockfield told West German MEP Karl von Wogau in answer to a written question that the Commission was already in discussion with member countries on the problem.

"A study on, and the preparation of, Community requirements have been included among the priority matters to be dealt with in 1985," he said.
