Mr. L. Graham, general manager, Venture Transport, Ltd., has been elected chairman of the northern section of the Institute of Transport.

Mr. T. A. Walker, Goodyear district manager, Edinburgh, since December, 1956, has been appointed manager, sales development division, operating from the Goodyear head office at Wolverhamptonk. Mr. J. H. Mr. Pitchford was educated at Brighton College and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he read engineering. After working in Mr. H. R. Ricardo's research laboratories at Shoreham, Sussex, he joined his present company in 1926. In the research and development department he became particularly identified with combustion research, notably on the high-speed diesel engine. He was appointed general manager in 1939, and more recently chairman and managing director. He is widely known as a consulting engineer in the design and development of all kinds of internal combustion engine and their applications. Mr. Pitchford joined the I.Mech.E., as an associate in 1937, became a member in 1947, and was elected in 1949 to the council of the Automobile Division, of which he became chairman in 1954.
