Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Transport and General Workers Union, seems to be changing its management relations policy. At the FMC this week David Buckle, the Oxford district secretary, said that the role of the trade unions in the 1980s was management partnership.

He defined this as the creation of new wealth through industrial growth. He wants to see a larger national cake with bigger shares all round.

Mr Buckle said he wanted more Trade Union and industrial trial involvement at government level. This appeared to follow the tripartite theme of Mr Heath's government when he tried to bring the CBI and TUC together at Downing Street and failed.

In return for their new power sharing role Mr Buckle said that the unions had to accept that they had a role to play in the creation of new wealth.

"There is no place in our society," he said, "for those who talk about bigger incomes without accepting their responsibilities for creating a more efficient and profitable industrial base."
