IAST Thursday, the executive com.!—+ Mittee of the Rodd Haulage Association considered the resolutions debated at the R.H.A. annual conference which was held at Bournemouth last week.
•• The first resolution, requesting the institution of clearways on all A roads not in builtjup areas, was passed to the highways committee of the N,R.T.F. for comment, and the resolution concerning the marking of dual carriageways was passed to the R.H.A. highways committee.
The third resolution, calling for some extra light other than sidelights on a vehicle in the hours of darkness, was referred to the highways committee and the vehicles committee for comment, whilst in the case of the resolution calling for staggered holidays in an effort to reduce road. accidents, the executive . committee decided to make .inquiries 10 other Similar bodies to discovei what is already being discussed..
• . A resolution calling for representations to be .made to the Ministry of Transport in an effort to stop traffic jams that are caused by road works, and calling for full reviews of such work to ensure the fullest speed, was passed to the Ministry by the committee.
The resolution welcoming the idea of the National Productivity Year was accordingly passed by the committee to the British Productivity Council. Sent to the insurance panel for comment was the seventh resolution, which said that full third-party cover should be the minimum insurance requirement for all road vehicles, and a resolution asking that fuel oil suppliers should make known to the haulage industry the specification of fuel supplied was passed to the vehicles committee which has already diScussed this point.
A resolution that the Construction and Use Regulations be amended, so as 10 require the fitting of a dual braking system to all new vehicles exceeding three tons ,unladen weight, was referred to he .vehicles committee 'for it to make comment.
