Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS the greater part of the holiday period fell in August, both output and exports during that month were lower than in the corresponding period last year, state the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. For the first eight months of the year the value of exports was, however, £9.7m. higher than the comparable figure for 1955.

During August, the total production of goods vehicles, passenger vehicles and battery-electrics was 12,127, the weekly average being 3,031 units. Of the total, 11,626 were goods vehicles. road haulage tractors-and special types, made up as follows:—Up to 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 5,645; 15 cwt. to 3 tons, 2,111: 3 tons to 6 tons, 2,593; over 6 tons, 1,277. Of the 424 passenger vehicles built, 312 were single-deck and 109 were double-deck motorbuses and three were trolleybuses, Battery-electries totalled 77. In the first eight months of the year 210,667 units were produced, of which 203,461 came in the goods class. These comprised 111,989 up to 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 34,679 from 15 cwt. to 3 tons, 38,833 from 3 tons to 6 tons and 17.960 over 6 tons.

Makers of passenger vehicles produced 6,185 machines, consisting of 4,564 single-deck and 1,544 double-deck motorbuses and 77 trolleybuses. Battery-electrics totalled 1,021.

During August, 10,415 units were exported, their value being £7,369.404. This brought the total for the first eight months of the year to 111.051, valued at £72,561,234.

Figures just issued by the Board of. Trade give the production of commercial vehicles in September as 24,541 (23,612 goods and 929 passenger) and exports as 9,702 (9,452 goods and 250 passenger).
