The Annual C.M.U.A. Parade as One of the Inaugural Events of Liverpool's Civic Week. A Full List of Prize-winners.

THE. seventh annual motor pare of the Liverpool _area of the .Commerclal Motor Users Association attracted a greater number of goods-carrying vehicles than has ev.er before been seen on a single occasion in Liverpool. Three hundred machines, steam, petrol and electric, in spick-and-span condition, • lined up on the parade ground, and, being classified in 15 sections, occupied the judges 'for close on five hours. Some of the leading prize-winners in the previous parades were absent, but that did not affect the zeal with which the leading trophies were competed for.

It is worthy of note that the cups presented by the Sentinel Waggon Works, Ltd., and John L Thornycroft Co., Ltd., for the best three steam wagons and for the best three petrol vehicles of any make, are for the first time both held by fleets built by the respective donors.

There were, altogether, four challenge cups on offer, the newest of these being the Jacob Cup for the haulage contractor owning the best petrol machine of any make. A Maudslay owned by S.P.D., Ltd., Liverpool, secured this trophy. The Pairrie Cup, which last year was held by Wm. Harper and Sons, Ltd., has passed into the possession of Mr. T: Lawrenson, who operates Sittinel steam wagons.

An analysis of the entries yielded the following data concerning makes in each group :—

Steam Classes.—Sentinel, 19; Leyland, 11; Foden, 3;. Atkinson, 1.

Petrol Classes.—Leyland, 20 Thornycroft, 18; Daimler, 13; Maudslay, • 9; Dennis, 8; Albion, 7; Ford, 6; Liberty, 6; A.E.C., 8; Morris, 3; Crossley, 3; De Dion, 2; 2; Scammell, 1; yulcan,.1.; Hansa-Lloyd, 1. A few late entries came along, but these are not included in the above, classification. Altogether, about 140 vehicles lined up for inspection by the judgei, who were as follows :—Mr. F. G. Bristow, M.Inst.T.,

(General Secretary, C.M.U.A., London), MajorGeneral S. S. Lang, C.B. (Lever Brothers, Ltd., Lon ..don),Xolonel B.,pairclaugh, J.P. (Jas. Pairclough and Sans, Ltd., Warring:ton), and Messrs. C. Woods.

The motor parade was one ot the inaugural events of the City's civic week, and never in the history of the Liverpool parade—which is the oldest in Lancashire—lies the event attracted greater public interest.

The work of organizing the parade vras much more laborious than on any previous occasion, anda word of , praise is, therefore, due to the committee which organized the event so well. They comprised :—Chief marshall, A.C. Bloomer (Joseph Crosfield and Sons, Ltd.) ; assistant marshals, Mr. T. Tweedle, Mr. L. -"G. Reid ; stewards, Messrs. N. Barker, D. B. We.tami, F. G. Birch, W..
