MuLdoon gets go-ahead to test longer semi-trailer

NORTHERN IRELAND-based trailermaker Muldoon Transport Systems has been granted a vehicle special order by the province's Department of Environment (DOE) to carry out road trials on its newly-designed longer semi-trailer.
The trial, the first of its type to be permitted in the UK and Ireland, will last a year. It will operate on all roads in Northern Ireland and designated roads in the Republic of I reland,The trailer is 15.65m long.
Justin Muldoon, company director, says: "At the end of the trial period, we'll put a case together to present to the DOE on the benefits of running this type of trailer, while during the running time, it will be visiting the government vehicle testing centre." He adds that one of the factors that helped Muldoon gain the special vehicle order was the incorporation of the Sidewinder rear-steer system, which tightens the turning circle of the trailer due to engaging fully when the front wheels are at 40 degrees, as opposed to on full lock.
