IN THE same week concerns were raised (again) over the excessive level of signage on the roads acorss the UK, here's the latest thing coming to a set of traffic lights near you. Somerset-based ConvexMirrors has unveiled the Convex Cycle Safety Mirror.

You certainly won't mistake it because it is bright orange and has a 450mm-diameter polycarbonate convex mirror.

The purpose of such an item is to warn a driver at leftturn traffic lights that a cyclist might be outside the reach of its conventional wing mirrors.

London Transport is to test the mirrors in two new 'Cycle Super Highways' in 2010.

They may prove useful for all those other things that vanish down the left-hand side of the cab: trailer doors, curtains, Renault Twingos...
