of rail freight wagons built up between Italy and Sardinia, an advanced railferry was planned. The stateowned Garibaldi, which entered service last year on the Civitavecchia/Golf Aranci route, is the result. She can carry 80 wagons, 24 containers and a dozen passengers at 20 knots.
A paper on design aspects by Raymond Currie, technical manager, Metallotecnica Veneta, and M. Vitiello, naval architect, described how this vessel, aided by high-quality handling equipment, has eliminated the backlogs and halved tonnage costs.
