Employers held a meeting in Leeds, last week, of member concerns invited to become controlled undertakings under the Government's new -haulage scheme, together with seven accountants who attended to give advice on financial points in connection with it. The outcome of the discussions was a unanimous decision to invite all Yorkshire road-haulage concerns which are controlled undertakings or which have been invited to become such, whether members of the Federation or not, to a further meeting which will be held in Leeds in April.

Mr. Harry Clark, manager and secretary of the Federation, was elected chairman at the meeting, at the outset of which the following points were agreed as the basis and purpose kf the diseussions:— To assist the Ministry of War Transport in the practical operation of the Government scheme.

To exchange views on and information gathered concerning-the financial arrangements of the scheme.

To, consider the advisability of formulating a procedure with a view to standardizing the regional work ing of the scheme, as it is felt that this would materially assist operators.

To confer upon any difficulties arising out of the scheme, or which it is anticipated might arise.

The meeting discussed in detail the financial arrangements which the Ministry of War Transport has made for the 'operation of the scheme, one object being to obtain uniformity of interpretation of the wording of various clauses.

On the question of freight rates, it was agreed that stabilization was yery. necessary.
