RECIPROCAL coach touring services between Britain and Western Europe, using luxury vehicles, have been arranged between the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., Harbledown, Canterbury, and Europabus. They will commence early in July.
Passengers from Britain will be able to pay for all their travel here, but V forms will be necessary for hotel and personal expenses.
Europabus will run a daily service between Ostend, Brussels, Aachen, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt and Maine. From Brussels, Cologneand Frankfurt there will be connecting
ur services to Luxembourg and Basle, e, From Cologne, services will run to Hamburg and on to Denmark, whilst from Frankfurt there will be connections to Salzburg, down to Vienna and on to Venice. Reservations will be made through
East Kent or London Coastal Coaches, Ltd., Victoria Coach Station, London, S.W.l. Passengers from London will travel by coach to Dover, by Belgian Marine from Dover to Ostend, thence by coach over any part of the wide network of services. They can pick their own itineraries.
People on the Continent can book in the same way for travel to Ostend and over the British network.
ALBION DEVELOP NEW OVERSEAS CHASSIS
Aov as NEW Albion overseas six-wheeler is being tested experimentally in
South Africa, where it is expected to
supplement the CX23 models at present employed by the South African Railways. According to local reports, the new chassis is said to be equipped with a powerful engine to provide a road speed of . 40 m.p.h. across the desert In initial tests, witnessed by Mr. H. managing anaging director of Albion Motors, Ltd., it made a record time for the 150-mile crossing of the Kalahari Desert.
Details of the new model will not be available until the XD23, as it is termed, is ready for production.
An Albion spokesman would not confirm a report that a two-cylindered oil-engined chassis is also being developed.
R.H.E. TO END: STATEMENT SOON
A STATEMENT is to be made soon on the future of the Road Haulage Executive. Mr. Lennox-Boyd, Minister of Transport, was asked by Mr. James Callaghan (Lab.), on Monday, whether he intended to abolish the Executive. He replied: "In view of the provisions of the Transport Act, it is clear that the Road Haulage Executive will have to come to an end, and that there will be some advantage in 'dissolving it at an early date.. I hope to make an announcement on this subject very shortly."
