1 Thirty-five dealers are being ecruited to sell Daewoo Avia D.ine trucks in the UK. Grossing at ,0, 7.5 and 9.o tonnes with :ummins engines, the Czech-built rucks go on sale here in October. "We've already had 18o applicaions for franchises, and we're sang through them," says Andre Cox, nanaging director of Edmontonlased importer Daewoo Truck UK. The firm is owned by Trunkline loldings, which also owns bodyiuilder Sytrux, recovery company
Motor Group and vehicle sericing specialist CSES Fleet 4aintenance. Trunkline has also ridependently imported Daf trucks. Cox is looking for heavy truck Lealers who want to add a light-tonedium truck franchise to their ,peration, as well as established ndependents that would like to start selling new vehicles, "We'll be selling the D-Lines at roughly 8% below the price of the nearest equivalent lveco model," he says.
He aims to sell zoo in the first full year, and to be retailing 8o o annually in five years' time.
All the imported trucks will be equipped with day cabs, but crew cab models are in the pipeline. All will have a two-year warranty.
Daewoo owns 50.2% of the Avia operation and is in serious financial difficulties worldwide. General Motors is likely to acquire the crisistorn group's car division. But any such sale will not affect Daewoo Avia, however, says Cox, as it is being run as an independent business. The Prague company made a profit in the first quarter of this year, but sustained heavy losses during the past two years.
