Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The first satellite communications service to be offered to UK operators could be launched as early as November this year, says satellite specialist Inmarsat.

Until now satellite communications have been offered only to hauliers prepared to take part in trials of the equipment. These trials have shown that operators can communicate with their drivers anywhere in the world. Other communications systems such as cellular radio are limited to national markets.

Bob Phillips, deputy general manger of Inrnarsat, says that up to 12 communications firms throughout Europe are set to launch their satellite communications services for hauliers from November using lnmarsat satellites, and British Telecom International is expected to be among them.

Last week BTI began a series of presentations to operators of satellite communications equipment, using a specially equipped vehicle.

Phillips says MAN, Oaf, lyeco, Volvo Volvo and Daimler-Benz have all worked with service providers to determine how the communications equipment will be presented in the truck cab.
