• US truck manufacturer Mack Trucks, which has had a £55m offer from Renault for a majority shareholding, has announced a second-quarter loss of £35m — a jump of more than 300% from 1989.

• Securiguard, which acquired express courier company City Link Transport in May 1989, pushed up profits and trading margins in the 28 weeks to May 20, making £3m before tax on a turnover of r76.5na.
Making more
• Britain's commercial vehicle manufacturers have increased output for the first time this year. In June output increased to 30,957 vehicles — up almost 2% on June 1989. However, production figures for the first six months of the year show output down 15.1% on 1989.
