used by Devon County Council to warn drivers to slow at roadworks. Robert's electric motor waves his arm up and down in a slowing motion. He wears a hard hat and a yellow jacket and his performance is being carefully monitored by the police and the Department of Transport. Robots of this type have been used successfully on the Continent and road safety experts believe Robert could reduce accidents as many drivers fail to notice conventional signs.
