THE Devon and Cornwall Joint Conciliation Board, of which Mr. K. G. Foster (Road Haulage Association) and Mr. J. Wages range from 45s. to 66s. a week for adult drivers and 305. to 46s. for youths, and from 45s. to 52s. for statutory attendants.

Generally, the agreement follows the national agreement, and provides for a 48-hour guaranteed week, with overtime at the rate of time-and-an-eighth for the 'first eight hours over 48 anatat

time-and-a-quarter thereafter. Timeand-a-half is to be paid for all 5unday B34 and Bank Holiday work. The employment of casual labour is discouraged, and casual workers must he given a guaranteed day's work at the standard rates of pay.

The national classification and rates of pay are adopted. All permanent men are entitled to a week's holiday and all statutory and proclaimed holidays with pay.

Under the final grading settlement, all places within seven miles of Plymouth Guildhall, but excluding all parts of Cornwall within such a radius, are in Grade 2, and the rest of Devon and Cornwall in Grade 3, Operators in Plymouth may, up to December 31 next, pay wages and observe conditions of employment not less favourable than those provided for in the Board's agreement of November 20, 1934, whilst the latter provisions may be observed in the remainder of Devon and Cornwall up to August 31

next. Operators engaged in purely agricultural services may apply to the Board for authority to pay 10 per cent. lower wages, but must not do so without express authority. The Board is at liberty to make special arrangements with regard to the guaranteed working week with operators in tidal ports. All services within Devon and Cornwall are to be regarded as short-distance services for purpos`es of pay.
